Question on Fan-Tastic Vent Fan 5000RBT

Hey y'all... Buying a 28' keystone from my buddy... And the vent fan wasn't working.... Being an electrician, I decided I should take it apart, test it and see if I could just replace the motor or something...

Well the thing wasn't wired up at all. Found a NEG dc wire with an appliance spade on the end in the ceiling coming from the nearby light.

Anyway... The fan has the 3 speed control, thermostat, and 2-direction switch.

I've got things temporarily jumpered together (fan housing hanging out)... And it works... Both directions, 3 speeds, thermostat clicks it on and off

Theres a little diode looking thing up in the corner at the top. It's got 1 wire running to one side of the 3-speed switch, with a spade for another wire...

I work on industrial stuff mainly so I know I'm just over lookin it, but what is this for and where does it wire in at?

Is the diode for polarity switching for fan direction/reversing? (current flow in one direction??)

Possibly might be available connections for a rain sensor and dc motor to close the vent which I do not think came on your model.

Is it the push button that prevents the fan from spinning when the vent is closed?

Looking at it more closely, it might be the thermal cutoff, which permanently opens the circuit if something gets stuck in the blades and the motor heats up.

That's kinda what I was thinking it MIGHT be... From the location of it...

I got it working without it... I'll have to pull it apart and do some more playing with it once I get the trailer where it's going
