55 amp charger- 2013 Bullet Premier 31BHPR

I need some help troubleshooting a problem. We had our first dry camping trip of the year and I noticed that the generator was not charging the batteries (2- 6 volts). The generator is a Yamaha 2400is. It could separately run the microwave and the 13.5k a/c.

When i got home, I plugged into the house and i heard the fan on the charger kick on. I thought that generator was not pushing enough volts, but it tested fine.

I'm not sure where to start. Any ideas?:

Do you still have your manual for the converter? In the back is a trouble shooting table. At least there is one in mine.

Measure the battery voltage with everything turned off. That will give you an idea of the current charge level on the batteries. Then plug into shore power. Measure the voltage at the batteries. The voltage should be a volt or so higher. Maybe more if the batteries are badly discharged. If the voltage is not higher, the converter may be bad.

Now disconnect from shore and connect to your generator. Measure battery voltage again. The voltage should be close to the same as on shore power.

If you had any 12v being used (fridge, lights, etc. ) the converter should have come on when connected to shore power. That is what supplies 12v when on generator or shore power. It also may take a little while for it to sense the condition of your batteries before going to maintain mode. JM2˘, Hank

dirty power? Yamaha 2400is

thanks for the replies. The voltage was tested again. My RV guy got a reading of 123 at the generator, 120 under load (running the microwave) and running 60 cycles? (forgive the bad terminology)

The charger works off my house, off his shop, and off a different Yamaha generator.

It was concluded that the power is dirty enough for the charger to go into protect mode. I'll buy a 30 amp charger and connect directly to the batteries as temporary solution.

That's disappointing. A 2400 should have no problem powering your trailer. Time to check the output of the Yamaha. The output on that generator should be a clean sine wave. How old is the generator?

This will be the 8th season using it for camping, but the 1st with the new coach. The cleanliness of the sine wave must be the issue.

Any idea how to measure it or if it can be adjusted?
