Charging Batteries
We have two 6 volt batteries wired to make 12 volts on our new < first> TT. Can I hook up my 12V battery tender to the two outside posts to maintain it over the winter or do I need to separate the batteries and buy a 6 volt battery tender ? < do they make a 6 volt one ? >
Thanks

Randy -
Yes, you can use a 12v battery charger to charge 2-6v batteries. Just make sure that you connect the charger to the 2 outside terminals ( one - and one +) of the two batteries. Hook one up to the red terminal (+) and the other to the white (-) as shown in your photo. You can use a 12v battery tender or a regular 12v charger set to a trickle or 2A rate.

Randy,
Where did you buy your dual battery box?
I have the same dual Interstate 6v batteries in my Cougar 21RBS, and cannot seem to find a good box for them.
I like the one you have..

Don't know where Randy got his, but it is a very common readily available box designed to hold GC batteries. Many places that sell GC batteries have them in stock. There is a "mate" to the end to end one that allows "side by side" battery mounting as well.
I use two "side by sides" to mount my 4 T-125's on my Outback
They are also readily available from Amazon.
Note I said "readily available" I didn't mention "inexpensive" because the AREN'T inexpensive.

This is the one I bought:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's not "that expensive" and seals the batteries completely so no road grime can get in and no gasses can get out. Holds two batteries with about 2" of room above the batteries.

I don't have 6 volt batteries, and looking at the picture from the OP, can someone tell me what the center black contraption is on each one that looks like a sort of switch? Is this a way to turn off or bypass a battery?

Are you referring to the fill caps? The black levered assemblies on top of each batterry are the 'ganged' fill caps.

Yup, that's the locking mechanism for the fill caps on each battery cell. Twist the crossbar CCW to unlock the caps and pull straight up. Then after checking the electrolyte level, push straight down, twist CW to lock the caps in place.

John,
I really like the one you suggested from Amazon,
(NOCO HM426 Dual 6-Volt Commercial Grade Battery Box)
I had seen it before, but did not realize that it was a dual box at the time.
Thanks a lot. I think I will get that one if I can fit it in there by moving the LP cylinders forward a bit. (Tight spot with that new 'East Coast Style' front).
Joseph:
Thank you too KTMRACER

Joe,
I paid $60.80 for mine about 5 weeks ago. You might want to shop around on Amazon and maybe wait a bit if you don't need it right away. I noticed it's up to $80 today
