Guess I'm asking what are the circumstances that would warrant going to the extreme of modifying the electrical power in an RV or running space heaters all the time. Extreme cold or ?? I've spent the winter in an RV in 0 degree weather without space heaters. Granted it was a much smaller trailer than now with no slides but the furnace kept me plenty warm. Going to modify my winter travels next year and trying to figure out if I'm missing something...
Well here in the PNW winter temperatures can get down to the teens on the wet side. Typically between freezing and 40 degrees. We park host and get a full hookup site in exchange for our duties. Host are encouraged to electric to heat with, most use space heaters, which I being the son of a fire fighter don’t like and feel are inherently dangerous. We do use our furnace to heat only our primary heat source is the electric heating element in the add on unit. We have a switch next to the thermostat to select gas or electric. As the electric is part of the exchange we use electric unless the power goes out, then we switch gas.
The RV Comfort Systems unit is UL listed and approved. Using the furnace to heat electrically I also heat our 5er basement keeping pipes warm.
In my professional life in IT, I worked installs in new and remodeled locations, I worked hand in hand with electricians all the time, what I couldn’t learn from a book I learned on the job.
