Boondocking
I wanted to clarify the meaning of this Thread. I asked other members if they knew of good places to "Boondock" in AZ. (Read Below) Being new to the RV world I thought that Boondocking simply meant to camp without hook-ups. After doing some research I found out that this is a soare subject in the RV world becuase some people like to camp in parking lots and RV purest think this is wrong becuase it does not support the RV parks. I meant no offennse and I don't really care what others do as long as they respect the outdoors. For me, I prefer to camp as far away as possible from other campers "in the woods" and pay my park fees at Dump Stations and so on.
"Once I finally get some days off this year I would like to take my RV out camping in January. Does anyone have any suggestions for good spots for Boondocking in AZ. I have only been able to take my RV out once to the Rim area in Payson... "

For boondocking in AZ in January you might try Quartsite east of the
Colorado River an hour or so.
That whole area becomes one big boondocking area in January with
many activities going on such as the big swapmeet.

Theres nothing wrong with boondocking in parking lots ,we do it all the time and enjoy the heck out of it( just our way of saving alittle bit of cash so we can do more camping.)And we stay in campgrounds to there are a bunch of nice ones out there that we would love to stay longer in but it gets a little priceie,We have stayed in alot of nice military campgrounds to ,to say money.

We like to run up by Wickenberg during the winter months. Check out by Vulture Peak. It's close to town but far enough away.

When we were coming back from Vegas and went through Wickenberg I saw down in a draw (a wash area) some camp ground. Is that the one? It was off the high way down a hill.

I'm thinking that's not it AZLee. When you get into Wickenberg, if you went towards California back out of town you'd run into a road called Vulture Mine Road. Take that south a few miles and look for Box Canyon. There's quite a bit of camping off of that road in that area. Look first before heading down a dirt road, there may not be turn around room on some of them. There is one big clear area to park; looks like a parking lot but you can stop there to research / scout a likable spot.

bpetroni, Howdy;
You can find some of the State park areas on the below link.
you might also check with the Dept. of Parks and Recreation
(or whatever Az. refers to their version), BLM, Dept of Interior...
the list of Goverment land overseers is long. There is a grunch
of empty land out there. A few well worded queries to some of
them may save you miles of travel to be turned away or tickeded
for tresspass.

Old Navy term ... it's short for GINORMUS + BUNCH = grunch ,
Used as follows;
He took a grunch of this and a smattering of that to create
the left-handed thissletwerp.
