New (to me) '12 F350

Finally took the plunge and signed on a new tow vehicle. Gonna pick it up next week.
I did get the 172", DRW. Figured if I was gonna step up I needed to do it right.

Any advice is appreciated, I don't know much about the 6.7's.

Congratulations on the new truck !!! I had two 7.3L Fords, one NA and one turbocharged. Night and day difference between the two. I was "fortunate enough" not to buy a 6.4 or 6.0L, and managed to "skip" all of those potential issues.

When we bought our new 6.7L I was very pleasantly surprised at how much more power it had than the older Ford diesels and was "amazed" at how quiet it was compared to my previous diesels.

I'm thinking you'll like your "newby" more and more with every trip you take.

Don't forget the pictures when you get it home !!!

You will be very happy, congrats! Did you get the in-bed 5th wheel prep? The 6.7 is a huge improvement over previous Ford diesels.

Installing the Reese/OEM underbed puck system isn't difficult at all and makes for a very clean bed with easy hitch removal.

I installed the one in my '12 F250 in under 3 hours with a helper and I'm 66 with 2 bad knees and over weight.. It did take a full 18 pack however...

The '15 came with the underbed pucks from the dealer..

When I bought the current Ford, it had 9,000 miles on it and a B&W Turnover Ball hitch. I got the Curt gooseneck/5th adapter and lived happily ever after. Nice clean bed with the hitch out.
Read your Ford owners manual well. I saw that Ford recommended 5w-40 CJ4 for trucks that tow. I found all oils that spec are synthetic. I'm running 5w-40 synthetic Rotella. My Ford dealer had no idea and wanted to use Motorcraft 10-30 conventional.

Congrats on new truck. Like others have said you'll love it. Lots of power and good fuel economy. My only suggestion would be to add fuel conditioner when you fill up. I buy the Ford conditioner from my dealer. I didn't do it with my last truck and didn't experience any fuel related problems. I decided it was cheap insurance for my 2013.

The 6.7 Ford diesel has been great so far in my son in laws F-250. 70K miles with no problems towing our 371 Fuzion.

Congratulations on your new truck. One thing I would do is check with a dealer and make sure it has the latest software. You'll find that it has 4 different EGT sensors in the exhaust. With the original programming when one of these sensors failed the truck would go into limp mode and you'd be stuck on the side of the road over a $50 sensor. And they do fail. Now with the latest programming the bad sensor just triggers a check engine light and the engine still runs normally. You bought a great truck, enjoy!

Pretty sure I have the update as Carfax said: "Engine/Powertrain computer/module reprogrammed. PCM reprogrammed" on 10/28/15. Is there any other way to know for sure?
I think I read somewhere that if the 6-1 gear indicators show up every time you start the truck then you're good (which they do) but... I'd like to know if there is a more definitive way to find out.
Also, I am using the Forscan app. Have been watching EGT 11-14, I assume those are the 4 you mean.

Definitely. Been using Stanadyne blue for years, plan to stick with what works as I haven't had a problem either!

Haven't towed yet but I did actually hit the drive thru the other day and the girl could hear me and take my order without any issue. That certainly wasn't the case with my 6.0. Can't get over how quiet this thing is!!

I don't know of a definitive way to know but if it was reprogrammed in Oct I would think you're good. Yup those are the four EGT temps. I use an Edge CTS monitor. I use it for the EGT's, Regen status, TFT, oil temp and coolant temps. Since you've had diesels before you may already know but for the benefit of all, I never shut off the truck when EGT's are high, either from an active regen or hard pulling, it only takes a minute for them to come back down at idle. I watch the oil temp and coolant to make sure there is proper separation. By that I mean the oil is usually 5-10 degrees hotter then the coolant. If they are running at the same temperature it would indicate that they are mixing somehow, which obviously is a bad situation. Some of the info I watch is redundant with the factory gauges but it keeps it all in one place for me with alert settings too. As for towing, you're in for a real treat! My 6.4 was good, noise level and power are similar though the 6.7 does have a slight edge in the power dept, the 6 speed transmission blows away the old 5 spd, smooth as silk and great downhill control, and fuel economy is way better.
