New Orleans recommended campground

We are heading to LA in Late July and would like to spend a couple days in New Orleans. I grew up in MS but have never camped in or around New Orleans. I am familiar with the area and know that not all areas are friendly.
Does anyone here have any suggestions?

When we visited we stayed at KOA in the west side

We would drive our truck down to the Riverbend area, park and take the Street Cars down St. Charles St. to the French Quarter. The campground also had free shuttles to the city.

Here is a link to a review of a nice state park site across the Mississippi as another alternative.
