2017 2500 chevy duramax
There out with 4044 lbs of pay load for 2500.That's 1000 over My 2013. I haven't found what Chevy did. I'm waiting for the 2018 hearing that Chevy will dump The DEF. http://www.gmc.com/trucks/sierra-250...kup-truck.html

Re: 2017 2500 chevy duramax
With the current limitation on maximum GVW for the 3/4 ton trucks at 10,000 pounds, I'm not going to say it's impossible, but if you "do the math" it's very unlikely that a diesel truck with a GVW of 10,000 pounds can have a payload of 4044pounds. That would put the truck's weight at 5956 pounds. Given the "luxury options" such as crew cabs, running boards, leather seats, spray in bedliner, power "stuff", and increased safety components (air bags, on-star, etc), that would mean that even if the "base model truck" had a payload over 4K, the upper level models would still be significantly less. Most current model diesel 3/4 ton trucks weight in over 7500 pounds with the new Ford's topping 8000 in most "upper trim models".
Also, consider GM's advertisements "touting the durability of steel beds", it's unlikely they'll be reducing weight of the truck by using "alternative materials" (they'll have to "eat crow" if they start using aluminum after all those commercials with the tool box). Most half ton trucks weigh in at over 5500 pounds, most with lighter gas engines, so I can't see a heavy duty frame with a diesel only weighing "under 6000 pounds.
GM may be able to get the payload up to 4044 pounds in a "stripped down, conventional cab, gas V-6 powered 2500 (maybe even a small V-8), but I don't think you're going to see a diesel model with that kind of payload, even if they can, somehow eliminate the additional weight of the DEF system. So, while I'd guess it's possible to build a smaller truck, I can't imagine GM changing that much, even with a "radically new concept". Hmmmmm wait and see, I suppose.
ADDED: I went to the GM website: http://www.gmc.com/trucks/sierra-250...ecs/trims.html they list (in the weights/capabilities section) the crew cab 4x4 standard bed 2500 diesel payload as 2513 and the gas engine payload as 2943. That's in "sierra trim" so upgrading to a higher trim level will reduce that by the amount of the extra options added to the truck.

Obviously it can handle way more payload than advertised if they can get to an 18000 lb trailer weight.

Re: 2017 2500 chevy duramax
I always thought you could get 3/4 ton trucks with the 11,500 GVW package? Granted it has to be licensed in the 1 ton (weighted) class, but IIRC Ford offers this package. Maybe that's where bowtie is coming up with this "class leading 4400# payload"?

Nope. The F250/2500 series trucks are limited to a payload "not to exceed 10,000 pounds". Ford offers two GVW packages for the F250: 9,900 and 10,000 pounds. GM offerings range from "around" 9,400 to 10,000 pounds.
The F350/3500 series trucks (SRW one ton series) is available in multiple GVW packages ranging from 10,000 to 11,500 pounds. With the F350 SRW, the most popular GVW options are 11400 and 11,500 pounds. It's my understanding that the lower GVW packages on one ton trucks is more "registration and titling" related than operational limitations.

Re: 2017 2500 chevy duramax
Figured out how to get the Duramax on the 2017 and found the specs
Crew Cab, Standard Box
Duramax 6.6L Turbo Diesel V8 engine 4WD
Max Payload 2513 lbs
Max 5th Wheel Trailering, 3.73 Rear Axle 13500 lbs
Rear Gross Axle Weight Rating 6200 lbs
Front Gross Axle Weight Rating 5200 lbs
If you do the math FAWR+RAWR=11400 GVWR
Curb Weight 7462 lbs-11400= 3938 Rough Payload (Do not do this you will die)

Re: 2017 2500 chevy duramax
The 4x2 regular cab WT weighs in at 5700 lbs. That gives a 4300 lb payload, but it is listed at 4,043.

It's interesting that the '17 models can tow more on the bumper then the 5th wheel. It's usually reversed. There's no fiver out there that a 2017 2500 can tow safely

Max 5th wheel/gooseneck is 18,000 lbs. That's with the WT regular cab trim, and gets reduced as other options are added to stay under 24k GCWR. The payload is the same way, 4044 and goes down from there as options are added. The way I see it, the 2017 will not be much different than any other 2500. It'll run out of payload for the heavier 5ers before it runs out of towing capacity. With the 4044 rating for a regular cab 4x2 WT that weighs in at 5700 lbs. by the time you move up to a crew cab, duramax, LTZ High Country/Denauli, you will have a truck that tips the scales at around 7700 lbs, leaving a 2k lb payload. So when it comes to the new 2500s, due to the 10,000 GVWR, it's new book, same story.

SO in conclusion the these 3/4 ton trucks are more than capable, but the tax man says they are not. Let's get TRUMP to fix dat too!

Re: 2017 2500 chevy duramax
A gooseneck/5er tow capacity of 18,000 is doable as long as you can find one at 15% pin weight. 18,000 X 15% = 2700 lbs pin. If you look at the RAM page it even states towing capacity is using 15% pin weight and you should never exceed your GVWR.

Re: 2017 2500 chevy duramax
That's why I said you will run out of payload first, which is the typical problem with 2500s.

My experience with the cat scale I run out of GVW way before I run our of Pay load. 10.000 is easy to hit when you start loading stuff in crew cab.

Re: 2017 2500 chevy duramax
Payload is the difference between actual weight and GVWR. So when you hit GVWR, you are out of payload. If a 2500 with a 10,000 GVWR has an actual weight of 7,500, you have 2,500 lbs of available payload.
