Got Bit

Yesterday morning while on our way to a four day event I had a blowout. We where on I-10 west of Live Oak near the Ag Inspection Station. The blowout was on the left side so I after checking it out I limped down the shoulder until I got to the Ag Station because I didn't want to get wacked by a passing vehicle. I knew I needed to replace the factory tires it was just matter of time before the bit me and wanted to buy the Saliun S637's as I had great service out of them on the old 5ver but the recent recall of them had me hesitating on pulling the trigger. If you are still riding on factory garbage tires don't wait. There will be new tires bought as soon as I get home on Monday. I will do the necessary repairs to damage the tire did. I have a aftermarket TPMS but it didn't notify us of any problem until we had almost stopped that was a minute or so after the blowout. The Tires are Hi-Spec brand.

Rick,

Take a look at post #15 here: https://www.keystoneforums.com/forum...049#post444049

The forum's ONLY INDUSTRY REP is "hispec". In that post, he pretty much states that his company will "take care of problems that customers have with HISPEC tires and wheels"...

Even if you don't choose to replace those tires with the same brand (I wouldn't) it might be a good idea to contact HISPEC and see if they will pay for your trailer damage and pay to replace the tire/wheel that were damaged... It might get you some help/reimbursement for your troubles...

Good Luck !!!

Wow didn’t know you could get 50 aspect tires for a 5er, that one looks pretty rad!!

Well tore the fabric pretty badly, one issue with TPS systems is they don’t update every second usually about once every two minutes or so. More often and the sensor batteries would not last very long.

Welcome to the club! You are now an official member of the RV Tire Blow Out Club! You know, you are never a true RVer until you've had a blow out! They say, there are 2 types of RVers. Those who have actually experienced a blow out and those who will experience a blow out. It's never a question of "if", it's a question of "when." I never believe that, until it happened to me. It took 25 years, but it did:

This happened to us 6 months after we took delivery of our Montana High Country, (Ranier Tires).

Again, welcome to the club!

Rick sorry to hear about the mishap. I would be replacing them asap as well, nothing good is going to happen with those that remain. Be sure and replace all 5. I think it just reinforces that no matter what they put on an RV as OE tires (unless Sailun, Goodyear Endurance, Carlisle) they are going to fail.

That recall on the Sailuns was for a 20 week period in 2020 comprised of around 80k tires due to a manufacturing defect causing tread separation. During that time (a time period after) I do recall reading about a couple of instances of failure with them. It looks like they have sorted that out. I wouldn't be concerned buying them now but it would be understandable if you were.

John has linked a conversation with HiSpec who said he represents the company. In that is also a form to submit for warranty claims. I would contact him and let him walk your claim through the company to see what they can do for you. Good luck.

I have a TST 507 tpms. I have removed the sensors many times with the monitor turned on. The moment I unscrew the cap (rapid air loss), the monitor will alert. There is no 2 min delay, if there was I wouldn't have spent the money on it. On my olf Tire Minder system there was a delay and that's one of the reasons I replaced it.

I've found on my TireMinder that if pressure goes to zero or comes up from zero, the sensors will report it right away, but transitions from one pressure to a roughly similar pressure can be long delayed. On one trip to the dealer, I noticed that the temperature readings were clearly bogus and didn't change to reasonable readings (along with brand new pressures) until we were halfway there, despite my power-cycling the in-truck repeater unit.

When I am filling my tires, I often bleed an overpump by partially unscrewing the TPMS, but the TPMS won't register the new pressure in a timely fashion unless I then unscrew it to read zero and then back on.

I think the sensors are tuned to report significant changes immediately, but otherwise just at "efficient" intervals.

I made it home yesterday without any further issues was kinda tired or more accurately partied out after 5 days of the reunion event so all I did was put the 5ver in the Pole Barb and disconnect. I had picked up a $35 used insurance spare since I only had about 90 miles to travel as a just incase since once the tire blew all the weight on the left side was on one tire. Will go to a few of the local tires shops today and see if they can get the Saliuns if not Simple Tire seems to have the best price. Will figure out what I need to do to repair the damage, I did send an email to Hi-Spec on Friday will see what they have to say too. A friend of mine has a Grand Design 5ver that had the Saliuns in the recall and actually had one that started to separate but he caught it before it did damage. He went out and got Hercules tires. Last time I talked to him he had not received the replacement Saliun's. I had told him a while back the I might be interested in them when he got em (that's part of the reason I was still running the other tires). Only thing is they are 235/65 16Rs and mine are 235/80 16Rs I don't think that will be an issue as I had the same tire size 235/80 16R on the old 5ver and put the 235/85 16Rs it. It is less than 1" of diameter change.

Rick have you tried Mavis Tire? I think there's one in Gainesville. When I got mine DT didn't have them but Mavis had 63 of them in their warehouse (TX); said they sold a lot of them - 235/80r16LRG.

My Buddy still hasn't got his recall tires, he is pissed at Simple Tire they are not even returning his calls anymore. I called Mavis Tire in Gainesville yesterday thanks to Danny's recommendation, they ordered me 5 S637 235/80 16R's price was almost too good, need to check date codes. They were supposed to be in today but, truck broke down or something like that said it would be tomorrow. I am in no hurry wasn't gonna put em back on right away gonna do the bearings.

If you're planning to do your own wheelwell repair work, KEEP ACCURATE RECORDS OF PARTS AND LABOR HOURS !!!!! Hopefully, Tredit will come through with some reimbursement for your damages and knowing exactly what you spent and how much time you put into the repairs will help with a "maximum reimbursement repayment".

Good Luck !!!

This is a "first opportunity" for most of us to see whether Hispec stands behind their products or whether their advertising matches the competition as "smoke and mirrors"... Hopefully they'll step up and take care of theiri customer's problems like they've said they will....

Keep us posted, no doubt other members will face the same situation and you're, more or less, the "blaze the way pioneer"...

Went out this AM and had my 5 new Saliun S637's mounted at Mavis Tire, "Thanks again Danny" I owe you lunch or something. The guy had originally quoted me around $850 when I called but my CC only got charged $794 when I called and ordered them. When I got there I asked him if he wanted me to pay the difference he said no it is ok. Worked out to less then $160 per tire mounted, balanced and the government's cut. I was kinda worried about the Date Code but they are 45/21 that is like mid November which isn't too bad. Still mo word from Hi-Spec other then a "Read Receipt" to my email on Monday 🤬 not holding out any hope from them. Talked to the guy who mounted the new tires he said that the tire on the white rim (the spare) had started separating on the inside, that surprised me since it was only used twice for a total of about 300 miles. He said he only put 100 psi in the tires and recommended to keep em at that claiming that they would go up to over 110 once I started towing. I will bump em up to 110 anyway. Will repack the bearings and inspect the brakes one day next week.

Rather than starting a new thread I have a question regarding hubs. I have carried a spare hub with the bearings already greased and ready to go just in case I have bearing failure while in the middle of nowhere I can just swap out the hub and I am on my way as long as the spindle isn't damaged. I have had this hub since my last 5ver. It is a Dexter and has the number 8-219 just like the hubs on my current 5ver which I had never had the wheels off until a few days ago. The thing I have a question about is the 4 hubs have a code/number of MTI 13 on one MTI 15 on another MT 16 on the other two, my spare hub has MT 12 on it. Does anyone know what the significance of the MTI/MT code thing and will my spare hub work if needed?

Glad you found the tires. Sounds like you got a deal and I hope you are as happy with them as I am with mine. I run mine at 110 no problem.

On those HiSpecs, did you PM the member HiSpec? If not you should try. He might be able to facilitate your warranty issue.

I have ran em before on my old 5ver never had the first issue. Had about 25000 miles on em when I got rid of it. Have a Nephew who used to do Hot Shoting I bought him a set for Christmas one year he had around 80000 miles on em when he left the business. I had posted in the thread where he made the statements the other day but, maybe I should PM him. It doesn't look like he has been online here in a long time. I was serious about lunch.

Thanks for the lunch offer. If we get "around the horn" (the bend) I'll give you a shout. If you PM him it may pop up an email to get his attention as mine does so he wouldn't have to be monitoring the forum. Good luck on getting feedback from him.
