New Member - Zeppelin Z241

Hello,

New member, new camper and new travel trailer owner here in Massachusetts. We purchased a 2005 Keystone Zeppelin Z241. Here's my question for all the experienced owners and campers:
Is the water heater supposed to shut off once water temp is reached? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Helena

Yes all water heaters shut off when they reach temperature. They are thermostatically controlled and protected with a temperature and pressure relief valve in case the thermostat fails and does not shut off the gas valve

Thank you for your reply. We have replaced the thermostat and the spark ignition thinking it would fix it but it didn't. The water gets really hot (120 degrees using a laser thermometer) and it will stay on. How long after water reaches temp should it be shutting off? Thank you.

You can hear the water heater running/heating with propane but not so with electric. Someone can correct me but I think normal water heater temps will run up to 140 degrees or so. 120 would be on the low side for us so doubt it is too hot plus leaves the possibility of bacteria buildup (looked that up). Water heater will shut off when temp is reached...whatever that may be.

Greetings cesteira

:wl cm:

So yes the hot water heater should shut down once temps are reached. As Danny said 120 is not extreme BUT it should still shut down. Are you seeing/hearing the propane on? Or is it just the pilot on? Further are we talking about it being on propane or on electric? I am not sure you would hear it on if it was running on electric so I am ASSUMING you mean propane. And we all know assuming makes an ***-of-u-and-me

If it is just the pilot on then that's OK. Seems to me if the burner was staying on the temperature of the water would be way over 120. But I am NO EXPERT! I had a Zepplin. I loved it. Good luck with yours.

Welcome aboard! Glad you found us.

If the water heater is overheating then you would see water coming out of the pressure relief valve. If that isn't happening then you are within range. You might press the lever on the relief valve just to make sure it's working and not stuck. But stand to the side when you do that...

Turn the water heater off and let it cool down before opening the pressure relief valve!

ABSOLUTELY!
If the valve is stuck with the water overheated that could be VERY dangerous!
I wouldn't recommend this procedure without a cool down even if it was operating normally.

Good point...never had one actually stuck before so didn't think it all the way through.

It's easy to think that common sense would prevail but there are folks new to this that may have never touched a water heater in their life so it's good to try to cover all the bases.
