Slide broke on vacation

Our slide on our 2013 2300bh broke just as it finished pulling in at our last stop. The motor sounds like it is freewheeling. I have contacted a mobile repair place near our next stop but so far no return call. Is there any hope for me to fix it or is the motor likely toast?

Hey Mike,
If it's a cable slide, you will have to remove the trim to get a good look at it. Check the chains and cables to see if their taught. If they are, operate the motor to see what is happening and report back with pics if you can.

The cables and chains don't move at all when the motor spins. I can see the area as it is all the way in.

I am feeling a bit better though as a repair man called me back and we may have it looked at tomorrow afternoon. He could do earlier but we have a raft trip reserved for tomorrow morning.

So we did not get it fixed on vacation but I'm home now and working on it the problem is the Chuck our whatever it is called that connects the motor and gearbox is trashed. Where do I find a replacement or does anyone know the part number? If hate to replace the whole motor and gearbox just for this part.

Your slide mechanism is made by BAL. I would contact them, if you know which side (motor or gearbox) broke you might only have to buy that assembly.

Chuckster, neither is broken. The driveshaft between them broke. Possibly part number 854761 based on my searching.

It's called a coupler. If the coupler isn't turning it may be a loose set screw or broken shear pin. I'm sure someone with more knowledge will chime in.

No the coupler/driveshaft is broken in half and shredded. I think I found what the part is but now need to order it. You can see one piece of it in the attachment. I don't remember where I put the other half

Looks like a couple of different lengths are made.

WHEW !!!!! Dyer's really marks them up !!!

Here's the same part listed for $1.42... They may "make it up in shipping" or Dyer's may just be "4 times the retail price".... https://bendtrailers.com/bal-flex-sl...SABEgI0hPD_BwE

Anyway, if they're on order, hopefully that will fix your problem in a couple of days...

I actually ordered from somewhere else where the part was supposedly $2 but shipping was crazy. That said $20 for both sure beats a new motor or gearbox cost.

A $2 part that actually costs $20... Sounds like a typical RV, boat, airplane part LOL

It's actually $20 for two as I don't know which one to buy... One would have been $17 though...

So I ordered drive shafts from car id as I didn't know which ones I needed. They were supposed to be delivered today but only one was in the box! And it's the one that doesn't fit. After waiting on hold an hour they say they have to check with the MFG that shipped the part before they'll even get it to me. I am so pissed right now. All they offered was a$15 gift certificate which is almost what I spent for the parts but.... I want the part not$15! Oh well I should get it eventually. Oh and the part for my 2013 that is needed is 854761 854769 is wider (3/16 shaft vs 1/8 for the part ending in 61). I need 1/8.

Wow, sorry your having all this trouble. If it makes you feel any better, parts are so scarce that we can’t get ANY thetford parts. I took yet another brand new unit off the sales line for a toilet. I was told at lunch that Jayco is so far behind at the factory, they are only delivering units to 1 dealer in each state.

That sucks about thetford parts. I sure hope my toilet doesn't break now! I have heard getting new units in is difficult right now.

Mine bedroom slide cable lug 5/16 Broken bolt , the top out . I pulled all the Chains loose from the sprocket and pushed the slide in Using a strap ratchet around the lugs keeping the slide tight and falling out. Every dealer service tech I called was booked out for weeks and months. It’s a Manual slide till I can get somewhere to put it back together.

Shortages are becoming far too common in EVERY type of product. From coins, to D&D circuit breakers to Amana air conditioner (outside units) to dimension lumber (for building houses) to steel roofing to toilet parts.....

Part of that is the COVID environment we live in, part is the dependence on China for "all things that can be made cheaper" and part is likely the "excessive swings in the economy"...

At any rate, I'd suspect things won't "stabilize with supplies to meet demand" for quite some time. Fasten your seat belt and keep looking for that "one spare part on a shelf in "Po-dunk" because all the major suppliers are going to be "out of stock"....
