Electrical protectors

New to camping and was researching electrical protectors. It seems the new Progressive Industries PT 30 X was rated the highest and had a lifetime warranty. They are quite expensive and hard to find here in Canada so I thought I'd get some feedback from more experienced travelers. We have a microwave, TV and air conditioning. It seems that most of our national and provincial parks are not super upgraded on the power boxes. Thanks.

I have found some surge protector but not the ones that monitor low and high power and then shut it off?

I installed the progressive EMSHW30C Surge Protector in my camper, with the remote display.





It has several, worthwhile, features and it is nice to be able to see electrical conditions, like incoming voltage, current usage and last previous error, if any, from the remote display.

The incoming line frequency status is of less interest, pretty sure that has to be a constant or the grid would not be happy.

It has saved things a couple of times and I feel it has paid for itself.

Man you folks north of the border are getting hammered by the exchange rate

I have the 50 amp version in my TT. You will really appreciate it. Mine has shut down power on a number of occasions due to low voltage. Worth every penny I believe.

Cheryl, you are going to busy, you are looking into critical issues TPMS, ELECTRICAL protection. As in the case of TPMS there have been many threads/posts on electrical protection. Search the forum for say surge protection, ems. A lot of good information out there. As in the case of TPMS pick one meeting your criteria. Two popular vendors Surge Guard, Progressive basically same protection features. Keep in mind these come on hardwired and portable model, some with monitors some not, local and remote. Please note that you can go to these vendor websites and get side by side comparison of there models.

Remember these units not only protect your appliances , it's also you rig major components such as converter, lighting, etc

I did the same as Brian above installing it behind my breaker panel. Works flawlessly and shows how much power each appliance takes.

One item of note here, the Progressive systems have a lifetime warranty

I recently purchased the 50 amp progressive system with remote display and will be installing it this weekend. I had to order a short piece of 6/4 cable as no local supply of that and it should be on my front porch this afternoon.

Thank you all for your assistance. I'll probably go with the portable one for ease of use. Yes, costs up North are much more but what can you do? I guess we have health insurance! Lol! There is lots to learn but one step at a time. Looking forward to the warm weather! Thanks!

I've been using it for several years and it has detected and protected from wiring issues several times. Glad I bought it!
