Water filters

Also looking at a water filter to help protect the tanks from odors etc. There is a huge range in pricing! Amazon seems to have a pretty basic one. Camco for about $30.

Yes that seems to be the favourite with most RVers. We have been using this one for years with no issues.

Thank you! Well order from amazon. Do you usually bring drinking water or use a Brita?

That inline filter usually does the job for us.

Some people drink straight from their tanks (after sanitizing) but my wife prefers to carry "drinking" water.

With every new camper the 1st thing I do is look for a installed filter to bypass. Have used the blue inline filters for a long time. Find them the least expensive when on sale at CW and always have a spare or two.

we have the conventional water filter and use the "Brita" it does a great job saves money on bottled water. just hooked up a water softener, best money ever spent ($178) on the 5th wheel. I know some will not like the water softener, but for my wife as she said after first shower "WOW"

This is what we use.... not into dry camping anymore...

We drink out of the facuet and although I do use the FW tank and clean it often with bleach solution we just don't have occasion to use it except on a blue moon..

I find these less expensive for our style of camping because I can remove an dry the cartridge thoroughly between trips... We do mostly two and three night and occasional week long trips so the little blue can type filters are expensive as they can't be readily dried for storage...

That is something I hadn't thought of. We will just be doing 3 to 4 night trips with a few weeks thrown into the summer. I wonder if you don't use them continuously can bacteria grow on them? We may have 2 to 3 weeks between trips.

Are you in Radium? I spent my summers at Windermere. Great area!

Yes in Radium. We are retired. Lived in Calgary/High River for many years.

We have more time than that between trips and have noticed no problems. We do not use anything but bottled water for drinking and cooking. The blue filter gets used about 150 - 175 days from Sept to May (we stay home June, July, August). I sanitize the FW tank before Sept which also takes care of the lines. Filters are changed 1/2 way through the season. I get them on sale at CW for $17 - $19 and always have a spare or two.

One way to eliminate algae growth on your filter elements if you're not going to use them for an extended time (between trips) is to remove them after a trip, let them drain well, put them in a Ziploc bag and store them in the freezer. Just rinse the filter container, let it dry and store it in the RV. Next trip, let the elements sit for an hour or so, reinstall in the container and you're ready to go. We've been doing it this way for years and never have a "gunky" filter element.

This is a common one used by many RVers: http://www.camco.net/product/tastepu...-filter-10059/

The KDF helps reduce growth of undesireables between uses.

Lot's of info about KDF here:
