We have had the 5.5 for our toy haulers and really like it. While we don't run the AC on the generator very often, it is REALLY nice to have when we want it. It is common for us to use this on travel days in rest stops and lunch locations which commonly also include the mandatory daily nap! Besides the AC and microwave, don't forget about the converter which will be charging your batteries when the generator runs - that can use quite a bit of power as well. Then there is the refrigerator, water heater, etc. It's pretty easy to justify the added capacity of the 5.5
We camp with friends who have the smaller 4.0 and to me, the smaller Onan unit seems noisier! If there is not a prohibitive difference in cost, I'd go with the bigger one if it was me.

There's actually quite a bit to consider on your installation.
