Chuck, this Suburban does not have a plug. The backside is covered with foam of course and there is a plastic box about the size of a pack of cigarettes attached to the foam jacket. It appears that the power line to the switch comes from a spade terminal plugged into this mystery box. No other connections are visible. Don't have a multi-meter with me so can't verify if there's any juice at the spade terminal.

Chuckster is right . Mine is located at the rear of the TT and is accessed by opening a cabinet door and getting past a piece of board to see the bypass valve and, on mine, the plug and receptacle. I am not well versed in how things work on a computer, but if you search out my thread about "problem with water heater" you can get a ton of suggestions for what the problem might be.

Rusty, I have taken the panel off and thoroughly examined the compartment while crawling on the floor. There is no cord and no receptacle. The only large gauge wire seems to be the one going to the mysterious plastic box. Your thread was interesting. In it you mentioned you were going to post a photo of what you had found. Do you still have that photo?

I thought I did but brain is dead half the time. Will try to get that done. I seem to recall that the post that helped me mentioned they found a wire connector unplugged. Maybe in that little box you found?

I am not very savvy on these things. Hope there is a pic attached to this. If so you can see the black plug in the foreground in front of the water heater. Hope this helps.

Shakedown Trip
600 miles is not a shakedown trip in my opinion. I always shakedown within 50 miles of home. That way.....should major problems surface.... you're not 600 miles from the dealer.

Actually, the dealer that we bought from is 450 miles from home! Normally, I would agree with you 100%. But, we brought the rig home in late November with no issues, we have 30 years experience with campers of one type or another and we seized an unexpected opportunity. We removed 6 inches of snow from the roof, plowed the snowbank out of the way and headed South. We expected and have encountered the usual minor crap that's to be expected (unfortunately). At this point the only issue that might require dealer attention is the electric hot water issue. Once I find my multimeter, I'll have a better idea of whether or not it's something I want to tackle.

Can you post a picture of YOUR WATER HEATER looking at it from the outside? Then I can probably tell you more specific instructions

You did very well, a gold star for you! No, we have nothing at all that looks anything like that. I'll post a photo of mine later.

Here are 3 photos. The first is the outside you requested. The switch is in the ON position. The second is of the back side with the white plastic box attached to the foam jacket. The third (which includes part of my hand) is showing part of the backside of that white box. Appears to be a small circuit board inside.
Any ideas?

Ok, what I see so far is the switch and the control board. There should be an outlet and the power cord form the water heater plugged into it like the pics posted before. You may have to use a mirror or your phone camera to look on the other side. If your ok with working with electricity then I can give you the steps your going to go through with the multi meter. PM sent

Well, the water heater mystery has been solved. The electric heater has apparently been functional since the beginning!
Since all of the switches on my control panel illuminate when they are ON, I assumed that would be true for the water heater. Not true! It's a solid black plastic or bakelite switch. So even in the ON position, you see nothing.
And I was expecting water to get hot as fast as if I was using propane. It doesn't.
So basically, it was lack of knowledge on my part and making some incorrect assumptions. I don't understand the reason for the black switch but the heater is working and that's all I was after.
Thanks to all who offered their advice, opinions and experience to me.
