Add exterior access to furnace?

My 2019 Cougar 29BHS does not have an exterior access panel for the furnace. To get to the sail switch and control panel you need to remove the furnace from under the fridge. I’m considering cutting a hole and installing an access panel outside. I found a panel on amazon for around $55. Has anyone done this?

I would not be cutting holes in the exterior wall just to gain access to the furnace. You have no idea what’s “in the wall” and you cut the frame. I have to remove lots of furnaces from the inside, it’s less convenient but it’s the way it needs to be done. Once out you can “bench test” it.

I agree with Chuck. It's not that hard to get that furnace out the hopefully very few times you might have to do it vs the very real chances of really messing something up. I don't see any upside to it.

I am thinking perhaps a self inflicted large hole in the side of a camper with an Amazon.com cover would likely not increase the value of the trailer if selling or trading.

I agree that it would be unwise. I know with the aluminum wall frame/filon construction on our trailer it has framing around every opening or hatch. You can see the outline on a real "dewy" morning as the the temps vary where the aluminum frame exists.

There are no periodic maintenance items for the furnace so access should only be necessary in the case of failure. If the furnace is failing routinely then a different repair approach (a qualified tech?) or replacement may be in order.
