Water tank not refilling

Hello everyone!

Very new to our new "RV Life."

I have a 2002 keystone challenger with a water filling issue.

After using all of our fresh water, we went to refill the tank again. I refilled it until it began to overflow out of the inlet.

I returned home, to see that the tank (and display) was empty. When i try to fill it up again, within a few seconds it overflows (as if it is full).

I dont have any valves next to the pump, or in the basement, and only have a hot water heater valve.

Any ideas why my tank will not fill?

If I was a betting man... I'd go with... It's full and the gage is kaput..

The gauge says its empty & i have no water when i turn the tap.

Several minutes ago i unscrewed the drain plug under the rig and a ton of water came out.... i put the cap back onafter 10 gals were removed..

Now i'm thoroughly confused.

Thank you.

If the gauge is bad, why would i have no water out of the tap when the pump is on?

Start with the basics. Is the pump turned on? If so, when you open a tap does the pump make a noise? If it doesn't, check wiring. If it does, check the pump to see if the intake hose somehow is disconnected or loose. If it is, the pump is sucking air instead of water. If the pump runs be sure to try every tap. Could have a clogged screen on the one you're trying.

Let us know how this goes.

If i run mine completely empty it takes a min to get the pump to prime up again. I open 2 faucets and when it starts to flow im good. As asked above do you hear the pump running.

Thank you Maineiacs.

When i turn the pump on, it runs just fine.

I fed a smaller diameter hose into the gravity intake tube. No clogs.

I turned on all faucets for 10 mins (hot + cold). No water coming from them.

Next steps?

If you leave the valve open for 2-3 minutes, does the pump continue to run and does it shut off when you close the valve?

We have never filled up the hot water tank. It is currently set to bypass the heater.

Does the pump run when all faucets are closed?

Sounds like a prime problem or pump just went bad.

The pump will continue to run.

Pump was replaced a month ago and was working the first time i filled the tank - if that helps.

Sound to me as if the suction side of the pump is stopped up or the diaphragm is bad.

pump was recently replaced and did work, then I would check for debris in the hoses. No telling what might be in there in an 18 year old tank. I'd get a strainer and add it to the suction line at the minimum. You could have sucked up some debris and either forced the diaphrame to not seal or damaged it.

Does the system work if connected to city water?
