Visited Las Vegas in the RV

Had a nice visit to Vegas. Stayed at the Thousand Trails Park on Boulder Highway. Spaces were very tight together but was an OK park, free fast WiFi and close to the strip and downtown. I saw many other parks along the same stretch most associated with casinos.

Word of advice though, this is not the type of area to go for a stroll, lots of druggies and hookers around, park had 24/7 security.

Its easy to drive to the Stratosphere, about 15 mins and park in their free indoor parkade and take the strips bus to see the sites.

Also Hoover dam is only 1/2 hour or so away.

Here is my blog post with photos

We always stay at Circus Circus on the strip. Back when the Sands was across the street it was really nice and "remote" Now, it's much busier, but it's still a bargain and is right downtown. There's even grass between most of the sites and palm trees that are about 8' tall (lots of shade) LOL

Sam's Town is supposed to be pretty nice, but we've never even driven through their RV park so I can't say much about it.

For those who are affiliated with the military, the Nellis FamCamp is about 6 miles from the strip and right off North Las Vegas Blvd. The price can't be beat and it is quiet (except for the sounds of freedom---afterburners) During the spring and fall it's pretty busy, so try for reservations if possible

Hey JR having been in the Air Force I had the experience of living in a sea container just off the taxi way in Aviano Italy for two tours which worked out to 9 mths in total, also I was posted to Canada's largest air base for 18 years, so A/B's are nothing to me!

We have been talking about doing some camping there nice to see some threads on it.

Your welcome, your going to have a blast. There are lots of new hotels on the strip and the newer signage they have is incredible at night. Something to see.

Bring good walking shoes

Rusty,

We spent a tour at Aviano and visited the army post down at Vicenza frequently. It was always a "hoot" to ride the train to Venice, and then to back out of the station for about 20 miles to get to a spur where they could go forward. I never lived in a Con-ex, but when we were first married, we spent 2 weeks at KI Sawyer in the BOQ which was 12x60' mobile homes arranged "stragically" right off the end of the active runway. The first time B-52's and KC-135's took off at 0200, it literally shook us out of bed. My ears rang for 2 days after that experience and my new "bride" insisted we find another place to sleep, even if it meant the back seat of our car..... It seemed that the landing gear just barely cleared the TV antenna on our roof. And we learned the hard way never to leave glasses or plates on the kitchen counter, they would vibrate off with only one takeoff. LOL

Oh, memories, sometimes even they are still painful

Glad you had a good time, we usually stay at Sams Town on Boulder Highway. They have two camp grounds, one next to their casino and one on Nellis Blvd. about a half block away. Not too far from the strip and price is right. Thinking of heading that way the first of next month for a few days.
Happy Campin....
