alpine keys... given only one set?

with our cougar we were given two sets. keystone said this is normal for alpine... to just get one set. i am finding this hard to believe. how many sets did you get with your new alpine?

I find that VERY hard to belive. every lock i have ever seen comes with at least 2 keys. someone is feeding you a line. look at what brand of handle it is and there should be a # on the key, you should be able to buy a key of that # off the internet.

oh yes, we have looked everywhere. we have a call into the salesperson. sadly we did not get a very positive experience with our demo/pick up. it left us with a lot of questions.

It's too late now but I am wondering if you had a pre-delivery inspection checklist with you when you did your walk-through? If not, there is one available here on the forum. Just go to the Keystone Questions section, find the sticky "Pre-Delivery Inspection Checklist", download and print it off. (You can keep this handy when you buy your next RV!)
The dealer should have provided you with 2 sets.

If your trailer uses the FIC keys like most, extra keys and more are available direct from the manufacturer (Fastec Industrial) on the net. I have purchased from them and they are a reliable source. They don't charge a whole bunch for shipping, either. When you order, they bill you via PayPal. You do not need a PayPal account to pay either. PayPal offers one time credit card payments which are reliable and secure.

Thanks for the link... I was given 2 sets of keys for my Passport but for some reason the rear door is a different key than the front door.. really kind of dumb... So I need to order a matching lock for one of them..

They had lost our keys and had to get two made. They just brought in a locksmith to do it. Later I opened the safe and there was the keys. Also when I was just in the looking mode, I noticed they put keys in the refriderator.

My Cougar has two doors and wouldn't you know it, two different keys!!

So as to your question, Red or Blue, I hunted down the Blue (aka Tool) key from rvplus.com because all other sites including FASTEC said you must be a locksmith to order one. RVPlus obviously didn't care. I just got it today and removed my two old cores and replaced them with two cores the same as my front door. I did order those cores from FASTEC. It was cheaper than replacing the lock and cheaper than going to the locksmith. The new lock specifically coded would cost me like $35 and shipping and the locksmith wanted $35 to change out the cores (I bring the lock and the cores I bought to him).

The Blue key was $9.99 and the shipping, well I can't believe I paid it, but the shipping was $8.42 for a 1/2 ounce key. So $18.41 later I have new locks that match my front door and now an extra set of keys that came with the cores that I bought from FASTEC.

I never checked to see if I could buy the Red key. From what I gather the Red is a master key and the Blue is the tool key. I wasn't sure if the master could also remove the core. I inserted the blue key, and pulled and SLIGHTLY twisted to remove the core. You don't even have to pull the lock apart. The deadbolt core needed to be in the fully unlocked position with the key slot left in that way, do not return it to center. The Blue key will not turn the locks, it only inserts and moves the last "wafer" in the lock to release it without raising any other "wafers". Wafer? Is that right? Probably not but hopefully you get the point.

Feel free to PM me or post here if you want to contact me.
