I'm going to pick up my 2012 Outback 298RE on Feb. 11. I want to preset up my Equal i zer 12,000# hitch. Does anyone have this setup or a 2011 or 2012 that can help me. Also did you start with 5 washers???
Thanks

Every set up is different. Did the hitch come with instructions?

Yes it did Bob.
All I need for now is the hitch height so I can set up the truck side of things.

The number of washers is supposed to depend on wheelbase, so longer vehicles need that fifth washer to add a bit of leverage. What’s the tongue weight difference between the Outback and your old trailer? It seems to me that the washers give you a head start on how high to set the L brackets on the trailer. Just bring a tape measure and a big wrench (or two) with you when you pick up the trailer and do the adjustments there.

I'm using this Equalizer for the first time. The old trailer was about 1/2 the weight of the new one. With that trailer I only used a weight distribution hitch. The new one being 10 ft. longer I went to the Equalizer to help with sway.

21''-22'' height

Finally got the call back from the dealership. 21-22 inches. Now I can set the ball. I'm going to start with 5 washers and hope for the best.

Pick up is set for Feb. 10, 2012 Let the countdown begin.
