Your favorite RV park, VA, NC, SC, TN

We moved to VA from CA about a year ago. Looking for some RV parks to try out. Have to be Kid friendly (8-10years old). We have plenty of state park (rustic) places near us. Would like to find a few nice clean parks with stuff to do at park or near by. Have been to couple in Outer Banks and Myrtle Beach. Really like those, but want to find some other places.

Thanks

Carowinds near Charlotte, NC has a campground and amusement park. We haven't been to the amusement park, but the campground is fairly good.

For a place that buzzes with activities it would be Bethpage in Urbanna Va. For a quiet place but close to a lot of things to do would be Cheatham Annex near Williamsburg VA.

Shenandoah crossing

Very $, however Shenandoah Crossing is the bomb. 1000 acre resort in Gordonsville, just north of 64. 67 acre lake and really choice RV spots. It's a timeshare place however has many RV sites. We stayed over the past long weekend and are definitely going back. Site comes with concrete pad, weber grill and outside sink, utensils included. Plenty for the kids and adults to do that's for sure. We were impressed.

Anchor Down in Dandridge, TN, our favorite so far. We are going back next June for 12 nights and our kids loved it. They are 11 and 14. Very nice pool with slide, lake, boat and jet ski parking area at dock, beautiful view, immaculate campsites, tons of stuff to do within about 30 minutes.

We are in Richmond and find these to be good weekend trips.

Misty Mountain, near Charlottesville. Good kid friendly park. Winery's are near by too.
Belle Isle State Park, near Warsaw. Big, quite sites but not much for the kids to do. Nice bike trails.
Big Meadows in Shenandoah NP. Dry camping only but our kids and grand kids love the hills and woods.
Chippokes State Park, near Surry and close to Williamsburg, Jamestown and such.

I see now that C130 mentioned Anchor Down, it is an amazing park.

Our rig is pretty big and we fit well at these parks.

We recently went on a trip to North Carolina and stayed at Mama Gerties hideaway. What a fantastic park and magnificent views. It was pretty fun getting in and out of the park but there were no issues. I highly recommend a stay there!

Second vote for Anchor Down. Going back again next Aug for a week. Close to Gatlinburg and the Smokey Mountains. Great Resort and Douglas Lake is awesome...

Shenandoah Crossing is actually a bluegreen resort. 1000 acre resort, 67 acre lake. It's a time share place that has regular RV sites. The sites are huge, I mean huge. Concrete pad, bbq grill, tools and outside sink included. It's like $85.00 / per day, however what a place. They even have sites with hot tub included as well. It's in Gordonsville, Va. 800-456-0009. Surprisingly, they only did the timeshare pitch once at booking, then left us alone. I think the direct line to the resort is here:

Situated right by Izac Lake, this relaxed rural retreat is 2.4 miles from Route 33 and 11.3 miles from Weston Farm Vineyard & Winery. … More
Address: 174 Horseshoe Cir, Gordonsville, VA 22942

We stayed at Misty Mountain this past Labor Day weekend. The staff were helpful and friendly. Our kids are all grown, so we enjoyed the many local breweries, wineries and antique stores. We also visited Grand Caverns. If you can, get a site on the lower area. If you are in the upper area, the drive up the mountain is interesting (steep with turns), also make sure you bring stuff to level your camper. The sites are not very level. Our site was out 6" side to side.
