Ramblings of a Park Host
We spent our first season (7 months) park hosting. Although the season ended a bit bumpy, or will end soon. We are at a Corp park in SE Wa. state. Lightening knocked out water in Sept, govt. went stupid in Oct, but other than that it was a great experience. Got the opportunity to meet wonderfull rv'ers and campers from all over the country. For the most part they were polite, kind, helpful, clean, just all around fun and enjoyable to serve. What few problems arose were usually from locals out for a weekend of fun and a little to much to drink.
We will hopefully be back next year for another great season, assuming the govt. doesn't stay stupid forever.
Just one observation: The world is your oyster people, NOT your ashtray, pick up your $@#^%%^ cigarette butts so I won't have to.
Happy camping...

X2 on that one and great job you did, we will be back next year as you mentioned as long as the government does not get stupid again...

Rig is spotted and set-up is complete. Walked the pooch and said Hi to some of the nearby campers. Started to set up the grill for some burgers when I noticed the "ashtray" look of the ground all around the campfire ring. Got the leaf rake out of the front compartment and spent about 30 minutes cleaning up the cigarette butts!! Why do smokers think it's O.K. to do that???
Thanks - I feel better now

Jack, I agree 100% about the cig. butts. Countless times I have had to spend my energy to pick up those butts all around my campsite and with my bad back it is a chore. Please people leave your campsite cleaner than when you found it as ALL good campers do.

Running the risk of being banned from the forum, and NOT trying to incite another political discussion ... This "trash" is a very good reason to close the National Parks, Mall, Monuments, etc., when staff is reduced. Who will pick up after the "slobs" leave? Same reason to cone off roads and close roads. Two people came very close to being hit by a car at Grand Canyon before they closed the road. Somewhere and sometime, there has been a collective removal of most people's good sense. And it occurred even before these darned texting devils (smartphone). I mean, even at the Y I exercise at, there are men my age that leave dirty towels all over the locker room! Momma never taught them to pick up after themselves back in the 1950s!
Sorry, let me step off the soap box here and pick up my trash ...
Ron

We had someone complain that a weekenders dog was leaving a mess everywhere and they didn't clean up. Told him we would have a talk and take care of it. He said not to worry he gathered it up and put it under their mat as he grinned and walked away.

Had to laugh....I have actually considered doing this because of the neighbors dog. We clean up after our Boxer, we. To the point of returning to the scene of the crime if the bags are forgotten.
The only thing funnier would have been a paper bag on fire and a knock and run......

That seems to be the main problem we see at every CG. Inconsiderate pet owners not be responsible for their activities are what most hots tell us.

The DW and i have been campground hosts for 5 summers. When campers leave we go and check fire pits and sites. We were cleaning up after some campers and a guy walks up to us and says dont they pay people to do this. Stupid people

The new issue is "you can't deny me a camp spot no matter what I have to live in because I'm disabled"
A 1965 trailer in rough shape and wanted to move in for the winter and wouldn't take no for an answer. Finally I said does your bathroom work they said no but yours does my reply was it's closed for the season so you need to go. But I'm disabled and you can't deny me a place to live. Yes I can now leave. 2 days later someone from the county called and I tried to explain that we are an Rv park/ campground finally the phone lost the connection and they didn't call back

If it's a "privately owned" campground you can deny service. It's done in restaurants all the time. In fact in Vegas they can kick you out of a Casino for any reason they want.....
RV Resorts all over the place are denying campers that have RV's over 10 years old. Many upscale RV Resorts in Florida have Motorhome / 5th Wheeler sites but deny trailers camping privileges.
Now if you're a publicly owned campground that's a different story.

Were private not they would understand the difference. Yesterday someone wanted to rent a trailer. Couldn't convince them they were all owned by somebody. They too were going to call the police and report us . I said fine but do it from across the road or your tresspassing.
