Slideout Toppers

Got a call yesterday that our new Cougar 31RKS has arrived at the dealer in Springfield, MO. We want slideout toppers. Any experience/comments regarding the Dometic elite or the Carefree Kover II?

To get or not to get is not an issue with us. We want them.

Our Sunline had the Dometic topper, not the elite. The New Mexico sun and wind did a number on the fabric but it took 18 months of that abuse. I replaced the fabric myself. Easy.

Thanks.

Paul,

We've got the Dometic's and are quite happy with them. The dealer installed them last spring as part of a special promotion.

One key point: Make sure that they anchor the awning high enough on the trailer wall that you get good run off of rain water without having to slip something under it. A lot of folks have to put inflatable pillows or such on the roof of the slide to keep the awning from puddling. One of ours is like that. The others have a slightly greater pitch so that the rain just runs off. I am probably going to move the mounting up an inch or two sometime this summer.

Have had a Dometic topper for 2 years and so far has been trouble-free. Well worth the investment.

We will probably go with the Domnetic Elite but I like the Carefree Kover II also. Decisions decisions.

Have Dometic slide toppers on our fiver for over 3 years now. We installed ourselves. Very happy with them.

I would just go with the dometic deluxe topper. You can go 7" mounting distance verse the elite's 4-5 inch mounting height. That's a big difference in slope. To me the metal wrap is not worth it. If you bump trees with them its going to cost more to replace anyway. The metal wrap prevents them from being installed at a higher slope.

Good points. And I replaced the one on our Sunline. Took less than 2 hours.
