Meters
A plug in voltage monitor is nice to have, it will help in assisting to diagnose lifted neutral problems like the horror show that was on the list server a few days ago. Keep it plugged in and mounted on the wall.
As for a general purpose meter, I have used many over the years as an electronic engineer but one really caught my fancy. Sears has a clamp on meter which measures the usual stuff (AC,DC volts, resistance, AC amps) but this one does DC amps, a highly useful function. It also has a Jk thermocouple for measuring temp from 0 degrees to 500+ degrees, I other words useful for checking the Aircon and the oven.
It was a little over $100 if I remember correctly. HIGHLY RECOMMeNDED!
