My new 2017 Cougar X-lite was delivered yesterday. I tried to lock it up, but can't get door key to turn. Help!

My listed trailer has 2 doors. We went in/out rear door during PDI. Dealer handed me keys for both doors which where different numbers. As you did, we got home and the front door would not lock because they gave us the wrong key. A easy way to check is if it is a FIC lock, the key has a number on it. So does the lock. Take off 4 screws on the lock inside door. You will than see the lock number. If it is a different number than key, phone dealer and have them send you the right key. That will save a trip with the trailer back to the dealer.

Ditto on the wrong key diagnosis. Check the number on the lock and key. During my PDI I put the wrong key in the front door and it turned and locked but wouldn't turn back or unlock. I had put the rear door key in it. The dealer replaced the lock and we were on the way. On our last campout of the season in Nov we unintentionally figured out a way to lock the keys in the TT. The door was unlocked and opened the door then keys removed with the slam lock in the lock position. We were able to get out without a key but when the door closed behind on the way out it was locked. We broke the lock to gain entry and made a trip to CW for a replacement. Lesson learned. Now I never leave the keys in the TT. I will have at least one on me anytime I'm outside.

I think everyone has locked themselves out of their trailer at one time or another. (Those who haven't, pay attention, your time is coming sooner or later)...
We were stranded, like you, and had to break into the trailer, destroying the lock to get back in. So, I bought one of those "key safe" magnetic boxes, put a spare key in it and hid it under the trailer. That was almost 30 years ago, and we've never been locked out again. So, I don't know what "magic" those little boxes have, but if you want to prevent being locked out, it's pretty cheap insurance. Magnetic, stuck under the trailer, on the frame, where only you know where to look, but oh, so handy to have that key "when it happens".....

I did the same thing. Luckily the kitchen window was open a little able to get my arm in to unlock the door.

I have a set of camper keys in the glove box of the truck and keep the other set in my pocket.
So far, I have not locked myself out...

CW is going to replace the lock this week. Glad I don't have to tow it back to them. Been looking at trucks. Any suggestions.

Ford or Chevy dually... you'll end up there anyway... might as well take the short route...

I think that is more than I need. Two old women don't need a monster truck.[emoji3]

Maybe not a need, but don't you kinda want one? Think of Kathy Bates in fried green tomatoes...

A dually solves almost every problem....for the others there's bacon and duct tape!
Somehow camper doors have a at of getting into the locked position and then closed. I had to climb into the storage compartment and out from under the bed once. I wish I had a video of that experience. Hmmmmm...maybe not on second thought.

Kate, you have succeeded in opening up a whole new bag of worms! Members here absolutely love to argue duallies and weight capabilities. Both arguments generally turn out to be more fun than a tote sack full of Beagle puppies.
We would suggest a new F-250 or GM 2500 or Dodge 2500, diesel, four door with all the play-pretties that you will actually use. This way you are set for the next two upgrades of trailer that are surely coming.
We both very much liked the Kathy Bates analogy. I also might bring up Betty Davis in an old TV movie "Skyward."
And Chip, our butcher shop we go to in St Croix has a sign behind the cashier: If you don't like bacon you are just WRONG.

I would drive the big three and look both at Chevy and GMC. I went from Ford F350 to a GMC 3500 and I believe the ride is smoother in the GMC.

Love the Kathy Bates reference. Thanks guys for your opinions and wise wisdom. Lots of food for thought.
