Black tank valve

So I took the black tank valve apart because it was leaking. As I was cleaning the gunk out of the groove I thought what a terrible design. Anything in the groove gets shoved in harder as you close the valve. So I was thinking what about a 3 inch ball valve? It would kind of clean itself as you opened and closed it. Anyone done this or tried it? Any problems? Just a thought.

Coming from having worked in the water systems industry for many years
My experience with ball valves is they don't hold up well when dealing with other than fairly clean fluids. The ball will rotate in abrasives , scratch and begin to leak

In MHO, A good quality , fully opening gate valve or manual open flapper valve
would be worth trying.

But even then, there is a chance that some sediments could capture in the small area under the gate or flapper

Simply installing back to back blade valves has always worked for me
