Corn Beef and Cabbage...

Anyone ever try this on a campfire? We are thinking of taking our first camping trip this weekend and thought it would be a fun meal idea.

I've cooked corned beef (both the briskets and the flats) for years. It takes about 4 hours on my stove top at home. I can't imagine trying to cook it all day on a campfire. But if you do, use a cast iron pot and let her sit there, bubbling away.

Another idea is to cook it at home, save the meat and alot of the broth, bring it to a boil again over the campfire, and then add your cabbage into the water, cus that won't take but 10 - 15 min depending upon how hot your fire is. Yum!!

Thanks so much for the replies. DH says he would rather have tri tip roast. That will be much easier and less cooking time. Now we just pray and wait for a dry weekend so we can get the season started.

mom2budnbug, Howdy;

I built one of these;

and have smoked a 9 lb. Boston Butt (Pork shoulder roast with the
shoulder blade left in). Someone else posted on;

about doing a 13 lb. Turkey and another did a large Brisket in one.
The possibilities are almost endless.

Corned Beef and Cabbage

We cook them when we are camping a lot. We have not done it on the fire yet, I don't have anything that will hold my Dutch Oven (I will this season). But, I do it on the Coleman stove outside and make my neighbors mouths water. I takes 4 - 5 hours for everything to cook but it is a great meal.

I had leftover corned beef and cabbage for lunch. And a couple Bob's, which are chunks of chicken breast wrapped in bacon and then smoked with apple wood.

Yeah, it was a great lunch!

I enjoyed the corned beef and cabbage yesterday but was looking forward to the Reuben on fresh bakery rye for lunch today.... and it was worth the wait.

Never tried it on an open fire but have a couple meals a year using the propane burner that came with the turkey deep fry kit.

@cuff

Our camping buddies who actually are going seasonal next to us just bought a pressure cooker primarily for camping season. Have any must try recipes? If you do maybe there are more people and we can start another thread.

There is a spot for recipes here on the forum.....check out the Community Link >>>> Social Groups >>>> Uncategorized>>>Kamp Kitchen . There is a group there (Kamp Kitchen) that started a discussion about recipes. Not sure how active it has been but that might be worth looking into.

We have some brisket ready to cook to take on our next trip. I would suggest if you have a crock pot (small) take it along and cook your corned beef and cabbage. Slowly for about six hours - wow you'll have the whole campground sniffing around - but Some Guinness and you are set.
Enjoy
