And last but not least, real -20 degree windshield washer fluid. You will not be able to buy it in California, regardless how cold the areas in the mountains get. Once you get out of California, stop at an autopart store or even a grocery store and get your reservoir filled with it and run it through your system. Its a pain to have to replace the hoses and fittings.

When we get closer to my departure date next month perhaps you can give me the latest on I84? That would be around Dec 14. Depending on what time it is when I head east from I5, I just might stay in Portland that night so I can drive I 84 during daylight hours.

Never even thought of that and I should have, had to deal with that coming from Colorado a few years back, won't tell you what we used

I will be glad to help. I will PM you if we get anything about bad stuff around than. Now news says monday the 2nd the freeze level could be down to 500ft. unknown for how long. That might cause icey areas near the Dalles and Hood River. The gorge winds can be bad day or night and ice worse at night of course.
