Slide-out water damage?

Having seen several videos of slide-out water damage repairs, I decided to waterproof ours as best as possible.

I purchased some aluminum rain diverter and fashioned it to act as a sidewall water barrier but also a drip-edge for the underside (preventing any leaching to the underside floor screws). The underside paneling should not be more than two inches deep otherwise it will mangle on retraction. It also needs to be fashioned around screws etc. to penetrate as far as possible.

I took out the bottom rails (inc. wall staples) and slid the aluminum paneling up behind and above where the rail goes.

I wanted to cover all screw heads with Ultra Bond tape (cheaper than Eternabond) so, to keep it tidy, I replaced all screws with stainless countersunk. The bottom rail screw holes are already countersunk so I just countersank the vertical end rail screw holes.

When covering the screws/rails with tape it's important to start at the bottom for overlaying purposes.

If you decide to try this, Do Not use sealant under the metal sheeting or it will squeeze out onto your carpet on retraction.
