glass door
Ant ideas as to why some of the 2024 cougars have glass doors. My new 316rlsse has one and it seems to me a dumb idea, just someting to break!

First, welcome to the forum.
Are you talking about a glass cabinet door? a glass shower door? a glass partition sliding door? or ???

I looked at two 2024 316RLS videos and they had the normal outside door and inside screen. Are you saying you have a glass door instead of a screen or ??

I have been seeing these glass entry doors on some RVs for the past couple of years. I imagine the total reason to use them is cost. They cannot provide any insulation value.

I have seen these on some Forest River models we looked at during our new 5th wheel search. Had not seen them on Keystones yet, but it was only a matter of time. From the inside, it looks like a regular door, from the outside it looks like a smooth black glass panel (tempered glass by the way). I think it is a purely cosmetic or aesthetic thing. I see it as just something else to break.

Here's a link to a 2024 Cougar 316RLS as the OP has. Where is the black glass entry door?? I know it's past lunch and time for my nap but every video I've seen shows this.

Like anything else that every RV manufacturer makes, they use what is on hand the day it is built. You can have 5 identical models built on the same line and the same day, but all will have some differences...
We have seen identical models on the dealer's lot and the cargo door swings up on one and sideways on another and the sideways the opposite way on another

I believe that I found a picture of what the OP was referring to on the glass entry door. Hard to see in this picture, but I believe it is glass.
Wonder what the cost is to replace that when the wind catches it and slams the door shut breaking the glass?

I need to make another pass at the RV dealerships. I've not seen any glass exterior doors at my dealership and they carry quite a few lines. They don't carry Forest River and I'm not sure where a dealer is that has them but I'm going to look. It sounds like a very bad idea. Since so many brands are now falling under "Keystone" maybe they had some surplus somewhere and just threw it on like you alluded to.
Edit: Did some googling and did find pics of them on the FR forum. Don't see any point in them except to give you a lot more glass cleaning to do every day.

Yeah, the glass door thing is something new on some of the newer models.
The OP stated he has a 316RLSSE, not the regular 316RLS
The SE is a new "special edition" model. Website lists as Special Edition Limited Run.
The Glass door thing started with the Cougar Sport series last year.
Door is made by Lippert.

Found this on RVTrader.com at the Holiday World RV of League City posting. Kind of hard to get a handle on materials for this door but could be some black glass? New 2024 Keystone RV Fifth Wheel RV Cougar 316RLSSE

Yep, when I looked at the Keystone website I guess I didn't see the RLSSE sitting next to the RLS on their floorplans page. Doesn't say much about them; specs etc. look the same. Says it's a "new floorplan" but sat them on top of each other and flipped back and forth and the floorplan is the same; island changed a bit, no overhead fan. Guess there must be some other changes you can't see in a floorplan. Can't pull one up with a video or even a 3D look around so pretty new I guess. On another note about that glass door; as much trouble as people have with those friction hinges being too stout and tearing up their doors wonder how that's going to work out with a glass door? Guess we'll see.
Edit: I did see that the special edition was given Furrion A/Cs vs Colemans.....

What I read and understand on the “Special Editions” is that they are very limited, mostly because they picked up a deal on various materials and when they’re gone, they’re gone.
Think of it like this; someone went through the warehouse and found a few of these, some of those, a handful of that and figured out that they could build a bunch of “Special Editions” using leftover parts. It’s creative marketing at its best

I was thinking the exact same thing, but then I thought, "Nah, not even Keystone would be that "bold" as to build trailers out of scraps and call them "special editions".... But, looks like maybe the just might be a lot bolder than I ever imagined ...
