City Water Connection

I'm taking my new camper - Keystone Bullet 2070 bh - out for the first time this weekend! Very excited but boy am I a novice. Two questions for my experienced colleagues:

1) Can I leave the city water hooked up to my camper or do I need to unhook it when the tank is full (I'm thinking the city water connection bypasses the tank but not sure).
2) What position should the rods that open and close the black and gray water tanks be in to close off the tanks?

Thanks!!

What kind of facilities will you have? If using your fresh water tank fill, fill the tank and remove the water line. If using a park that has facilities and you have a water source, connect the water line and leave it. The water from the city connection will provide the water and pressure you need and you don't need your fresh water tank. If you don't have a city water source, fill the fresh water tank and your water pump will provide the pressure.

Your holding tank rods should be pushed "up" or "in" to close the valves. Leave them that way until it is time to dump your tanks. Dump black first then your gray tank(s). Let the black tank fill enough to have plenty of liquid in it to drain freely - I always run extra water when using the toilet. Letting the tanks get almost full is the best way to dump them. When there is little water it just leaves gunk behind in the tanks. Squirt a couple of shots of Dawn dishwashing liquid into the toilet and sink. Fire away with any other questions before your maiden voyage - lots of experience on this forum.

Yes you can leave the city water hooked up. You may want to turn it off at the spigot if you leave. There is no tank involved with city water.

The rods are pushed in to close them and out to open them.

For Holding Tanks rods pushed in to close the valve, rod pulled out to open the tank valve

your fresh water supply to your rig can come from two separate sources, city water connection when city water available or from your on-board fresh water holding tank.

city water available and on supplies water pressure to your rig

no city water and you have fresh water in your tank, then turn on your water pump to supply pressure and water to your rig

In most modes you can fill your fresh water tank from the city water source when available

And I can’t stress enough that if you are using city water turn the water off everytime you lave. Only takes a
Minute. This way should a shutoff valve fail on the toilet or a line start leaking you won’t come back to a flooded rig.

One other idea. Take a small refillable squirt bottle (home depot $5). At the campsite, put a teaspoon to tablespoon of bleach in the squirt bottle. Add about 16oz of water, shake. Squirt the solution on the city (campground) water spigot to Sanitize it. Don't forget to squirt the threads and up into the spigot. Rub it around with your fingers. Let it set a couple minutes. Then open the spigot, run the water and use your hand to rinse off the bleach water. It only takes a couple minutes and you'll feel better about the cleanliness of the water hookup. Reminder: don't get the bleach water on your clothes. When you leave, put your hose and connectors away, empty the squirt bottle and rinse it off, and out.
