Heat pump cooling and air conditioner

Hi all,
First off let me say that I'm looking forward to reading and getting involved with this forum.
This my first post and I was trying to find out if the heat pump and the air conditioner can be switched out?
Let me go back a bit. I bought a Montana High Country 374Fl in 2019. I .love the layout and the trailer itself. Only drawback is there is a heat pump in front living area and air conditioner in rear bedroom. Well, Where I camp as seasonal I only have 30 amp setup. So can't have both heat pump on cooling and air conditioner running at same time, breaker blows. Not to mention when fan or air conditioner is on in bedroom it is hard to sleep with the noise.
The heat pump doesn't seem to cool down the trailer, as well. Once sun goes down then it cools somewhat. There is cool air coming out of it but I guess I'm expecting it to be as good as the air conditioner.

What I would like to do is take the heat pump and put it in bedroom and take air conditioner and put it in upper living area. Is this possible? I am farely handy but do not like to play with air conditioners.

Any help or ideas welcome!

Hi and welcome to the forum,

What you are referring to as a Heat Pump is actually a dual use system. There is an air conditioner built in to it for cooling just like a conventional a/c. The Heat Pump function is to warm the inside air when it is chilly out, and will work effectively down to about 40 degrees Fahrenheit. The thermostat should have separate setting for a/c and heat.

I'm not familiar with your particular layout, but if it is like most modern 5ers your main air conditioner is ducted to cool the front and rear sections of the camper through outlets in the ceiling.

I think you will find the factory arrangement is probably the better way to go, once you figure out the thermostat settings.

Good Luck,

I agree with Pull Toy. My High Country has the heat pump and it works fantastically. It has no bearing on the operation of the AC. I assume your main AC is the quiet design, both living area and bedroom ACs are ducted? If so I'm not sure what you're doing that would involve the heat pump with the AC.
