Unhappy how to prime flojet water pump

Hello. First off, I would like to thank everyone for answering my kitchen sink problem. I found the unmarked, not on monitor, or manual pull between my driver's side tires. I would have never have found that by myself. Next problem. Trying to sanitize water lines, but new Flojet isn't working. Turns on, but I'm not getting any water into lines. I replaced old one two years ago, and have never ran the new one till now. I was wondering if I need to reprime it? Or did I get the plumping mixed up? I didn't document where everything went like I should have. So, I had to guess a lot. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Is your fresh tank full? You need some water in the tank, I would put at least 1/3. As far as the lines:

Make sure the line FROM the fresh tank goes to the IN side of the pump. The pump should be clearly marked with an arrow showing the correct flow of water. Next make sure the winterizing valve is turned OFF. Can you post a pic of your water pump and the lines?

^^ Good advise.

FYI, every pump I've ever had was self priming, Just add water first.

Good Luck,

Pumps are self priming, but I have one that occasionally has a problem. I don't know if it is due to low water in tank, airlock, or weak pump but a trick I have learned is to us a gallon container and a short suction hose on the winterizing connection to the pump. This requires less suction and makes the pump prime much quicker. Then just swich the valve back to normal and it always (so far) works great until the next period on non-use and complete draining.

Any air leak in the line from the tank to the pump will cause the pump to cavitate and not draw water from the tank. It may be a bad O-ring, a loose fitting, the winterization valve partly open, a hole in the supply line (not normally a problem, but a pinhole will cause the pump to not draw water) or any other source of "free air" on the supply side.

I find it’s easiest to prime the system after winterizing Connect water hose turn on all the Hot water till water flows freely. Make sure there is enough water in the fresh holding tank. I have 11 gallon hot water heater tank with a water pump take some time to fill .
