Last gasp of winter for Kansas?

Snow squalls, and 16f this morning, didn't clear 32 until noon. The forecast for the next couple of weeks if you can trust them, has the lows in the lower 30s. Was today the last gasp of winter for us below Nebraska?

Don't know about up there but think we've had the "last gasps" of winter here but then they just turn into howling wind and sand.

Winter is on life support around here. We had about 6 inches last week, it has all melted, but last night was in the 20's, tonight will be in the 20's again, snow predicted for this weekend and no promises for next week or beyond...

I well remember the "cabin fever" I had the couple of springs after we moved back up here from Louisiana. It would get "nice enough to mess around outside, then the next day we shoveled snow, then nice, then repeat snow... That lasted until the latter part of April both years. The third year, we had 26" of snow on St Patty's Day, followed by cold, dreary winter weather until mid May. That year, we cancelled our annual bass opener in the UP. The lake we fish that weekend was iced over and no way to put a boat in the water.

Last year, it was 75F the first week in April and stayed there nearly every day. There were a few "killer frosts" in the wee hours until around mid June, but that's typical for around here. NEVER set tomotoes until the 3rd week of June and "hope beyond hope" that the 66 day "early girl tomatoes" will ripen before frost starts in September....

Cold weather and extended winter temps are pretty much "assured until after Memorial Day and sometimes even later.

As a side note, they've been crappie fishing in Louisiana since mid February usually in short sleeves and straw hats....

I am over it, 122 inches of snow this season. Yes over 10 feet, only about a foot on the ground now and some southern exposures are bare ground. High to mid 30s during the next week with nights in the mid to high 20s. Gonna be lucky if all the snow is gone by Memorial day. On the plus side,we are over 12 hours of daylight now. I did wear shorts yesterday but was not outside much.

Rain and snow were a component of the trailing portion of the system that came thru last night and this morning. However, the UP of Michigan is getting another 3 ft of snow from the system. Doubt JRTJH will be going fishing on the UP this weekend!

Nope, you won't find me in the UP this weekend !!!!! Right now we've got 50MPH winds and a snow/rain/sleet "dump". It's not too deep yet, certainly nothing compared to the heavy snows in the UP. We've got maybe 3" accumulation, but with the temperatures in the mid 30's, that probably means something closer to 6" of snowfall since 3PM this afternoon.

Our boat, the Slingshot and the Cougar are safely tucked away in the pole barn and the truck is "basking comfortably in a heated garage" and that's where they're going to stay until things melt, dry up a bit and it gets significantly warmer !!!!! The fish'll wait till the "real spring" (not calendar spring) arrives <G>
