I just use a cheap hand held fishing scale, tells me exactly how much I have in pounds.

I have a Truma LevelCheck that I won last year. It works as advertised. I don't know that I would have spent the money to buy it though.

I heard (was told at orientation) don't buy a gauge. Fire up the cooktop (so gas is running). Pour a little water over the tank. The frostline on the side of the tank will tell you how full it is. I have never tried it. I guess it works on this principle.

Had I known I’d have sent 2 for $35.

some of us do it the old fashion way....one tank 'on', one tank 'off'. when the 'on' tank is empty we now to change over and get the empty filled.

you always have gas...provided you refill the empty tank:-)

I do this. Just is annoying when one runs out over night and I have to make coffee in the morning, and have to go outside first to switch tanks.

I could get an autoswitch, but I'd be worried I'd blank on checking the tanks and only to find out it had switched and now I'm completely out.

I don't use my auto changer. I keep the other tank shut off. Nothing worse than running with both bottles before you knew one was empty.

I also use the Mopeka sensors for my 2 tanks. Haven't had a problem with them yet, seem to be reliable. I also have the gauge readout in the camper if I'm running low on the phone battery.

The problem with any aftermarket gauge is they work off of pressure. Propane, being a captured "gas" in liquid form, is that it will always have the same pressure, give or take a small amount for large temperature swings. That beign said, by the time the "pressure" gauge shows lower, it is empty or darn near empty.

You would need a tank with a float valve installed to get accurate level readings.

And then maybe not

I put one of those inline gauges on my tank and it somehow restricted the gas flow so bad that I couldn't even get one burner on my stove to high setting. Took it off and replaced with a Mowena electronic sensor system (yes, it's quite a bit more money) and am loving it.

Check out Mopeka.com wireless gauges stick by magnets to the bottom of your tanks then send signal to your Smart phone works great.

There are literally dozens available online from pol add on gauges to strips that mount to the side of the tank. I just pour warm water down the side of the tank and where you see the cold line is the propane level and it’s free. Replacing the manifold connector to an auto transfer connector is a safe move as previously stated. Whatever you buy don’t buy from a RV Dealership. Use EBay or Amazon to get your monies worth.

Been using one of those for a while now. I get notifications on my phone when a tank runs below 10%. Of course I have the standard auto switchover so lot's of time to get a refill.

Go to Harbor Freight and buy a non-contact infrared thermometer; about $20. It sort of looks like a gun. Open the door and let the bottle get warm. Run the gun down the tank until you see the temperature drop. That's the level. It works best if the tank is hit by the sun, but not necessary.

Is that the same thing we all carry to check the heat of the tires, and brakes?

Yeap, same thing. HF sells a "multipurpose tool" and far too many don't/didn't realize it'll measure temperature on gas bottles as well as on tires and hubs. It'll also measure heat output temp of the furnace and cold output of the air conditioner too.

Just start at the top and scan down, when the temperature changes, that's your liquid level. (or start at the bottom and scan up, when the temp changes, that's your liquid level)..... Or heck, do it both ways (for a second opinion)....

Yes, I toss a little hot water on the tank from the outside shower to really show a big difference on the temp gun.
