To make the bed or to not make the bed

Just curious what folks do when they return from a trip. Do you remake the beds immediately after you clean the sheets so it is ready to go next time out, or do you just remake the beds as you prepare to leave for a trip.

Washed and remade right away, you never know when you are going to show the unit to a friend or neighbor. Always in show condition inside and out.

Bedding is washed and folded, set on bed. Put together at first night camping. Works for us YMMV.

Two sets of sheets (just like underwear) when one is getting washed, the other is on the bed (or butt).... Unless you "go commando" why leave the bed naked??? I know, too much info, but it's raining, nasty outside and cabin fever is fast approaching.....

We don't make up the bed until right before we go camping. Living in the South, sheets tend to get a musty smell fairly quickly after sitting in a hot, humid camper. I like mine smelling like they just came out of the washer/dryer.

^^^^This is what we do. I think it all depends on how often you plan to go and the time period between. Ours will sit months without going out so we leave the mattress protector on with a bedspread and a couple of throw pillows. In preparation for an upcoming trip we wash two sets of sheets; one goes on the bed fresh and we keep another set in a vacuum packed vinyl container in the event they are needed.

Before we full timed the rig was repacked and remade upon return from previous trip. All laundry washed and returned to rig, bed made. We had camper cloths, so we didn’t need to pack. Propane was refilled so both tanks were full.

Best time out for unplanned trip, 1:15!

That was out the door at work, install hitch, air up rear tires, go to yard and get rig. It was four miles home from work, and three miles to storage yard. DW was waiting with perishables out of home refer, and dogs.

Clean bedding goes in a zippered plastic bag from a quilt set with a bag of balsam needles to keep them smelling fresh. If I wasn't allergic to cedar I'd use cedar blocks. A bar of your favorite herbal soap works too, just wrap it in a washcloth so you don't get soap on the sheets.

Usually we wash them and put them right back on. However, depends on the temps outside at the time. Making the bed is about like wrestling an alligator to begin with so if the camper is hot I️ wait until we are at CG with air running!

Ha, wrestling with an alligator! I like the analogy. We used to have a small trailer with a corner bed and that was one of the main reasons we upgraded to our new one with a semi walk around bed. So much easier to make the bed now.

We usually wash them and then just throw them back on the bed until the next trip when we will make it up as we pack things for the trip.

so 1/2 the posts are right away and the other 1/2 are just before a trip. I think you will have to decide what works best for you. Maryland can sometimes be super muggy during parts of the summer, so perhaps during those months you leave the bedding off until just before you go. The other months maybe you make the bed right away if that's your preference.

Upon return from a trip, we leave our sheets on the bed until the week we are leaving, then wash them that week and install them fresh 1 or 2 nights before we leave. Unless my In-laws have slept in it (light smokers)- then we remove them as soon as we get home. Extra sheets for bunk beds and stuff are washed and stowed in the cabinets upon return home until needed.

All sheets (we have one queen and two bunk beds) are immediately cleaned and put back on the beds. The same is done for clothes which we keep in the RV.

We then do the rest-

Both toilets, all three sinks, and the shower stall are cleaned as well. All food and drinks are removed, and all tanks (one fresh, two grey, and two black, as well as the hot water heater) are drained and cleaned. All floors are swept/vacuum. All surfaces are wiped down with Clorox Wipes. Both the refrigerator and freezer are emptied and wiped with Clorox Wipes. The stove and oven are cleaned. All dishes, silverware, pots, pans, and other cookware are cleaned and put away. Consumables (paper towels, napkins, toilet paper, personal hygiene items, etc.) are restocked. Both propane tanks are filled too.

Finally, any maintenance items and/or needed repairs are taken care of right away.

In short, the RV is prepped for the next trip immediately after returning from the current trip.

Why do it right away? So we don’t have to stress before the next trip, and we know the RV is always ready to be used at a moment’s notice. And, as previously stated, we can show family, friends, and neighbors the RV without having to worry about how it looks.

One final note: We store the RV in our backyard, so this makes it very convenient for us to clean, maintain, and prep the RV.

Let me poke a stick through the well-known fence. McMeadows, I read your entire post and when I was done I was almost exhausted from just reading. I would have a hard time enjoying my four day weekend knowing I had a whole day ahead of me cleaning things so they look nice in case my neighbor comes over.

Rotate two bed linen sets so always in ready to show condition. DW likes displaying the unique “ couples only” layout of our TT.

X2
While DW would clean, it was just a standard clean, not a sanitize. We also didn’t remove staple food items between trips, I understand if unit is only used once or twice a year, but our goal was at least one trip a month.
It was just the two of us, so trips at the drop of a hat happened often.

.

We are just getting back to camping. When we trailered before the clean sheets were in the trailer and ready for the first night make-up.

Now we have a murphy bed in the 1800 we will probably do the same. The wife likes fresh sheets so we will probably have lots of spare in the TT ready to go, even if it is a planned weekend trip.

That immediate sanitization right after a trip sounds more like a military campaign that a trailer cleaning.

I need to ask our 2 Brittany Spaniels as they spend a lot more time on our bed than we spent in it.
