Leveling TT at your campsite

So I watched this video:
and noticed that on the dual axel system he's only leveling one of the 2 wheels? Is that really the right way to do this? I was thinking you needed to put a leveler in front of both wheels and then roll backwards?

That's not the *right* way to do it. It's the lazy way.

This has come up recently here. I believe that the consensus is that if both wheels are kept at a similar height, it's ok. But it's not ok to block one wheel up three inches and not the other. Do 'em both at 1.5" or 2".

Mechanically, I really see no problem with it. I prefer to use both wheels, but really and truly, what is so wrong with using the fulcrum action of the suspension?

This is my system for side-to-side leveling. As you can see, I use X-Chocks between the wheels for stabilization, so using a ramp on both tires is a must. I also use a pad under the ramp to prevent sinking in soft ground.

The thing I like about this particular ramp is that it's not incremented, so I can back onto them while watching the level on my pin box and get perfectly level. When I see that I'm level, I tell my wife to put the red chocks in to prevent rolling forward. All this stuff is available at CW.

Thanks for the photo. That looks really good to me. I'll do that next time out!

Those blocks look really nice but if your site is really off, what do u do? Do u carry boards to raise it if needed?

Yes, I use two boards that replace those orange pads you see under the ramp. The boards are a little longer than those orange pads so the tires roll up on the boards first. I've only had to use boards a couple of times but I carry them just in case. You'd be surprised how much lift you can get from the ramp. I've tried several different ways to level side-to-side and found that this works best for me.

I too block both wheels.this is jmho. the fulcrum and suspenssion was designed for road travel. when parking lift both wheels not one. it's cold outside so i am ready for the heat of the naysayers.i use the ramps and X chocks also.I have some boards but have yet to use themfor height only on soft ground so the ramps do not sink

Jay, I didn't want to hook-up to show how much lift you can get with this ramp, so I used an old RV tire in my driveway to demonstrate. This is why I usually don't need to use wood to get additional lift. Like I said before, I still carry wood just in case I need more. I should mention that if the ground is soft, it's easier to pull forward on the ramps. I live in Florida where soft sandy soil can be a problem sometimes.

Thanks Keeper,

that looks like they work really well. I tow along a ton of boards to stack if I'm off level. I really need to look into those, save a lot of space in the back of the truck. Thanks again for the picture.

Do the tri-levelers fit between the axels? So you can use two on the same side?

I carry 1- 2x10 long enough to fit under both wheels and use between the wheel chocks. I will not choose a site that requires more than 1.5" of lift to correct from side to side. That said I refuse to be over zealous about leveling. If it is eyeball level that is good enough for me and it has never made any difference if it wasn't perfect.

Yes, with room to spare.

I use the tri-levelers too. They work great for me. I try never to get a sight that is not pretty level to start with. The last trip out i only had to pull up on the first step. I still want to get a couple of the extended X-chocks. Might be a good b-day present

I just read this thread and thought I would put in my 2 cents. When I need to level just a bit I will use one block under one wheel/axle. If I need more will use blocks under both. I always use a level as eyeballing it can be difficult if the terrain is not level also.
