High Falls State Pk, Georgia

Has anyone been to this state park in Jackson, GA - it is right off I-75
between Macon & Atlanta?

Just wondering - I have 3 nights that I can 'finally' camp - so thought I'd try some place new.

Jo

I have camped there a few times. Nice park and the falls are picturesque. Easy to get too. Just a few miles to the west is Indian Spgs SP, it is nice also. There is a BBQ place over in Jackson called Fresh Air BBQ that is off the chain good. Best Brunswick stew I have ever eaten. Been about 5 years sincxe I have been to High Falls. I have a few pics in my photo link

Thanks for the photos.

We are going to try to go 9/29, 30 anbd 10/1.

Haven't been able to get out in 3 months due to a little 'hand' fracture/surgery problem I had.

Therapy is rapidly helping now and I gotta get out of the house!

Talking Hey Jody

Hey Jody
Ever stayed at Victoria Bryant SP just outside Royston. About two hours from your house and it's by far one of the prettiest parks we've been to yet. We are hosting here until the end of November and the golf course is assume, fishing is great and the Bar-B-Cue in the area is to die for.

How was High Falls? We live about 1/2 hour away but have never camped there.

Victoria Bryant SP

Ruffus,

Very likely I will be golfing there before the end of November. Played there several times. Excellent state course. I won't be camping, as we live 60 miles from there and I keep my RV over the hill in Dahlonega (75 miles) mountain roads. (where I am this evening). Send me a PM and I will furnish contact info.

Anyone wanting a HUGE fall festival in GA; Dahlonega has it's annual Gold Rush Days this coming weekend. The whole small town is totally shut down to traffic.

Anyone going to be at the RALLY in Daytona in 2 weeks, send me a PM if you have interest in meeting and saying hello.

Have NOT been to High Falls SP, also anxious to hear how it is.

I enjoyed High Falls...

No falls though......just a few dribbles !

I hear March/April is when to come see falls (depends on the rain during the winter)

We will go back!

My wife and I spent the weekend there a couple of months ago. Have to say that it was a bit of a disapointment. The Falls are a manmade concrete wall with water dripping over the side. The camp grounds are across the street deep in the Pine Forest.... (I hate Pine Trees). We reserved a Premium RV Site and it was anything but Premuim. I guess I have been spoiled by campgrounds with "Actual Premuim" sites. I for like being out in the middle of nowhere with no access to Sat TV, or scenery of any kind, then High Falls is the Campground for you. I think that we will return to Stone Mountain for a quick get away or maybe Rosevelt State Park near Columbus, GA.

If I was one to 'truly' hate pine trees then I'd be in BIG trouble - at Soperton where I live is called the Million Pine City. It is about ALL we have. Lots of logging here.

I did not pay for a premium site, as I saw no difference in it than in regular sites.

I never said it was great like Glacier national park, or many other parks, but it is what we got, and I am happy to be able to just get to it once in a while !

Red face

Jo, If you really want a Great Experience, just 15-30 minutes away from High Falls is Indian Springs State Park. The camp grounds are 100% better than High Falls and are on the lake. My wife and I found it while on a weekend motorcycle ride. It is definately one you would enjoy. Yes ther are Pines but not so many around the camp sites that you feel like you are in a Pine Prison.....

We drove over to Indian Springs when staying at High Falls. Checked out the free 'spring' water. Lots of people there filling up their jugs.

We will go there again some time also.

We like hiking trails and sorry to see they had none, but still a nice little town and seems like a few things to do there.
