7 inch step riser with 11 inch tread depth

I too got tired of putting the rock climbing gear on to make my way up to the bedroom on our Cougar MKS 326. . I took out the factory steps and made it into the more conventional 7 inch step height.. I would like to start by saying wood is not necessarily my friend when it comes to wood working. My wife is very pleased with the end product. She has the thought when carpet comes out it does not go back in; so wood would be the final product. I won’t say how many hours this little project took me to complete; at least I don’t have to get the rope and lanyard out to make my way up to the bedroom on the mountain anymore. Just a mention I used hidden hinges from Menard’s so we could have extra storage under the treads.

7 inch step riser with 11 inch tread depth

Congratulations, great job! I think there are about four different ways to skin a cat (not to offend cat lovers) out there now (+ as you've shown getting better). Someday Keystone is going to wake up address the 10" step safety issue, but RHDW says I drink too much

Looks great but I think I would come up with some way of securing the thread to the riser. In the event someone catches their foot under the nose of the thread its going to be a real problem trying to regain footing with the lid/thread coming up and possibly not providing a thread for the person to put foot back onto. This has the potential to cause a person to fall backwards.

Just a thought to keep you out of the ER or Court $$$$,

Not a bad thought... I may consider adding a lock feature to the tread if I notice a "catching the toe on the tread lip" especially after a number of rum spirits. At least its not as bad as it was originally
