The HMS victory is in dry dock at Portsmouth England. As of 2020 she has been in commission for 242 years. Once upon a time while visiting Portsmouth, I took the time to take the full tour. It was conducted by British sailors in uniforms from the 1800s. Very interesting to find out that there were only 7 hammock cots. They were for the 7 most senior of the crew, including the Captain. They were made of wood and would be the crew member’s coffin should they be killed in action.

"Felicity is an unincorporated community in Imperial County, California. The town was established in 1986 by Jacques-Andre Istel. Istel first bought the land in the 1950s and later developed it in the 1980s after selling off his parachute business."

NOTE: Felicity is located very close to El Centro, CA where you will find the winter home of the USN Blue Angels flight demonstration team. Before they moved their winter operations there, the Facility was designated the National Parachute Test Range (NPTR). It's still also a parachute testing facility but the designation has changed to; Naval Air Facility.

Devils Tower National Monument - Wyoming

For those who haven't walked around Devil's Tower, there are nearly always climbers on the face of the mountain, scaling the cliffs. Most are high enough to "look like ants in the crevices"... There's an old wooden ladder, attached to one face of the cliff. It was built in the 1890's, used regularly to climb to the summit well into the 1940's.

Here's a photo of the ladder and a climber. They are not my photos, no way in HELL would I be above that climber, looking down and snapping pictures with my Fuji "sportmatic"...

We'll be visiting in about 10 days. Hope the kids can see some of those climbers. They got their binocs.

Just as you enter the Devil's Tower park, there's a HUGE ground hog colony off to the left (going in), just past the park sign. That will be a place your kids will really enjoy, early in the morning or toward dusk. When it's hot, the ground hogs don't do a lot of "on the surface" play, but when it's cooler, they are a lot of fun to watch...

There's a parking lot near the restrooms at the base of the mound and parking, though busy, is usually available in the main parking lot. About 200 yards from that parking lot is a blacktop path around the base of Devil's Tower. DW and I walked it when we were there a couple of years ago. Make sure you take snacks and lots of water. There are benches and a few picnic tables along the path. Lots of great spots to view the climbers and to look out over the wilderness.

They'll enjoy that visit.

You are right... they are extremely small from that distance. Here is a photo I took while visiting in 2013.

Ships that transit through the Soo Locks are narrow and long. This is a picture of one made into a museum. The picture was taken from our tour boat while waiting to transit into Lake Superior.
