What do you load in truck while towing

Was wondering what people load into their truck beds vs. stow area on TT while towing. Saw a guy who had everything in his truck bed and next to nothing in the stow area in his TT. Hopefully I'm not putting too much in the stow area...I have in my stow area a smaller tote with about 20lbs of tools and repair stuff, a 20ton bottle jack (20 ton because it was on sale cheaper than a 6 ton), camp chairs, plastic Coleman folding picnic table and some light stuff like outdoor carpet, 2 bags of the leveling lego's and a few other things totaling at best 100lbs. In the truck bed I have a bike or two, large Igloo cooler (loaded), large tote with cribbing wood, tote for black tank stuff, a 2 burner griddle, extra propane bottle and fire wood.

A lot of this depends on the payload capacity of your truck. My F250 has the 10K GVWR option, but with the approximately 1,700# pin weight, I try to keep the load in the bed under 300#, just to be sure I don't overload under any conditions. But I pull a fiver, and am height limited as to what I can put in the bed of the truck.

Take the known payload of your truck, deduct the passengers, fuel, other normal cargo, and tongue weight of the trailer. That will give you a fair idea of what you can carry in the bed of the truck.

Your loading is pretty typical for most of us.

The only thing i normally keep in the bed is the power cord, wood for under front landing gear and fire wood. Everything else i normally take fits in the under storage area of 5er. I just do it this way so i have less packing when its time to roll.

Stuff that either takes up too much floor space in the trailer, has no specific "home" in the trailer or isn't part of our usual load.

Examples: the big drinks cooler that will sit outside the trailer, the big cabin tent + queen inflatable mattress for when we will have visitors, the huge outdoor rug for the very sandy beach sites, my big adjustable reclining camp chair. An emergency "go" bag. Extra beverages (club soda, beer). Firewood only if we are going to a local campground.

Everything I can fit:
Porter cable air compressor
Toolbox
Collapsible ladder
Smaller easier to access toolbox
Extra steps for trailer when leveled high on door side
Wheel chocks

It all has be under the bed rails. As mentioned above, all this stuff has to find a new home if you are at or near payload capacity so there is no hard and fast rule on where to keep it. Obviously stuff in the bed also has to be ok with getting wet when it rains or be in a waterproof container.

Let's see...
Pancake air compressor
Blue Point tool box
Plano storage locker (towels, tape, bungees, jumper box, HD yard trash bags, shooting range supplies, misc. stuff I don't want to get wet)
Expanding ladder
Portable grill
Portable griddle
gas can
Campfire wood
1-2 coolers depending on....(1 with ice only and other iced down beverages)
I'm sure I left something out

All locked under a Retrax bed cover.

The storage in the trailer has the same stuff all time; things that live with the trailer, ie; collapsible ladder, leveling equipment, water/sewer stuff, extend a pole, chocks, xchocks, 12v compressor, etc. etc. etc.

The truck bed is covered so I can take whatever there as well; 3 gal. portable compressor, tools, ice chest, bottle jacks, wood blocks, bags with clothes, awning accessories (end shades etc.), ground covers, etc. etc.

You have to keep in mind that whatever goes into the front pass thru and the bed of the truck has a direct bearing on your truck payload.

Champion 3100 generator, plastic folding tables, camp chairs, Weber Q, 30 QT cooler and a spare, 25LB, propane tank.

I quit taking firewood, most places don't like you bringing it in.

I need to figure out a way to bring my fire pit, that is made out of a washing machine drum.

The first thing that was added to the truck bed was an across the rails toolbox. Next was a 42 gallon aux. fuel tank, electric pump, and fuel filter setup. That took over 500 lbs away from my payload. Then a bicycle for my wife, some wooden blocking for the stabilizers and tongue jack and the power cord. All total, around 600 lbs. Add in the tongue weight of approx. 1360 lbs and I'm down to about 3300 lbs of available tongue weight. Gotta love a Crew Cab Dually!

In the past, usually just my front landing jacks wood and a couple chocks. Had garage for everything else. New camper, still have garage, may still carry wood for front legs, trying to use the thinking of if I can't find a place for it I don't need it. We'll see how that works!

Storage area in trailer has 1 tote with my cast iron fry pans, a tote for camp site things like table cloths, tent spikes, mosquito repellant, rope lights. A tote with electrical cords, jumper cables, adapters and the surge protector. 1 with basic hand tools, torque wrench & sockets, cordless drill. 1 with the sewer fittings and slinky.

Truck bed gets 2 folding tables, 2 lawn chairs, the weber Q with its stand and the tote with my water hoses, filter and Y splitter and spray nozzles. Some times I throw in the screen room and folding hammock. The things in the truck bed are too large to fit into the trailer storage compartment for the most part.

I typically carry a couple of bikes, a large stocked cooler, portable grill and some odds and ends that don't have a home in the trailer. The pass through storage on my travel trailer has all my leveling blocks, and other trailer specific items. I use it as my garage. Our camp chairs live in the under bed storage while traveling and come out first thing upon arrival at destination.

It all depends on whether we are going camping or we're gonna be traveling with 5er. For DW & I, camping requires different necessities than things we need if we're gallivanting around the country.

Folding chairs, 5 gal. diesel, spare LP gas, wife's 3 wheel bike, toolbox, 5 gal. bucket that holds miscellaneous items, wood blocks and planks. A 2.5KW generator will be added when necessary, and for cold weather trips a small 110V compressor to blow out lines. Electrical toolkit goes in cab, 18V tools go in front trailer storage. Truck is Dodge 3500 with deleted and tuned 6.7 Cummins, SRW axle, trailer is Hideout 26B.
