Washinton & Oregon

We just returned from a 2600 mile, 17 day trip. Met our DS and his family at Grayland Beach SP on the central Washington coast south of Aberdeen. This is a very nice park with FHUs. The sites are shaded and very roomy. They are set up in a 'pin wheel' fashion and very easy to get into and the circular roads allowed for a very safe place for the grandsons to ride their bikes. If camping near the beach in a quiet setting is what you like, I would certainly recommend this park.
After staying there and at our DS's wooded acreage near Bremerton we headed south and spent 4 days at Crater Lake RV Park in Prospect, OR. This is a smaller park with FHUs located in a pine woods. The camp hosts were beyond friendly and provided us with plenty of info as to what is a must see in the area. Crater Lake is, in a word, breathtaking. Hard to imagine a volcano so large that it's crater would become a lake over 1200 ft deep with a 30+ mile shoreline. The lake and the upper Rogue River and its many waterfalls were a welcome sight for us drought weary Californians.
And did you know that in Washington there is a phenomenon where water actually falls from the sky?
By the way, the Cougar performed flawlessly (except the pooch broke the power panel door) and our F250 averaged 14mpg!

Finally managed to download some of our trip pics.
First two are of Grayland Beach SP, then Mt. Thielsen and Crater Lake viewed from the Lodge on the south rim.

Jack,

Great pictures and beautiful scenery, I'm sure your family enjoyed the time together. I'm also sure that for you, time with the grandson was much more "spectacular" than the scenery !!!

Glad you enjoyed the trip.

First time I traveled Crater Lake around June 1973 and road was still snowed over and park closed.. Rideing in a motorhome and looking out side windows with snow highter than the windows. I was told many times the park will not open til July. All other trips have been in August.

I traveled up and down 97 through Klamath Falls in a semi for many years and never really realized the park was just the other side the mountain west of Klamath Lake. We ended up coming out on 62 to 97 and then down through Kfalls. Worden and Doris hadn't changed much in 25+ years. I think they widened 97 in places though. Don't remember the passing lanes except for Mt. Hebron.
