Oregon Steam-up
Friday we are headed to Antique Powerland in Brooks, OR for the 2013 Oregon Steam-up. It's pretty fun - steam powered equipment demonstrations, museums, tractor pull and much, much more. Check it out at:

There were no RV sites available, so we are staying at John Neal Memorial Park about 30 miles south east, along the Santiam River. It is a county park and looks pretty nice:

I'll be reporting back when we return.

Pics
Returned from the 43rd Oregon Steam-up today. "Amazing" is all I can say. Very well organized, by all volunteers. Much bigger than our last visit nearly 10 years ago! I'd guess there were 25 acres of museums, exhibits, a swap meet, tractor parade, blacksmith demonstrations, homemade ice cream churned by steam engines, traditional tractor pull, working steam engines, steam-powered sawmill. all types of vintage power equipment, and hundreds of exhibitors showing all sorts of vintage steam powered implements, vintage power equipment, old tractors, music, and plenty of activities for kids. This year there was a vintage Tear-Drop show with some amazing custom built trailers. And good eats - not just your ordinary food vendors. Great for the whole family - our grandkids had a blast. Worth planning a trip to Oregon to see this. Held each year, for two weekends, usually beginning the end of July. Check the website for next year's dates.
Here are a few pics:

Do try to visit the Antique Powerland Museum. Although the "Full-meal-deal" of the Steam-up only happens two weekends during the summer, there are many great exhibits on the grounds year-round. There may also be other events throughout the year. Check their site as listed in my previous post in this thread.
We are going up the coast to Girabaldi to take our grandson for a ride on the Coast Train for his birthday.

I have also ridden the Blue Goose, which I believe still runs from Yreka, CA inland to Montague. Where I grew up, in Felton, CA, there is still a narrow gauge train running that was used for transporting redwood logs from the woods to nearby mills during the late 1800's. You can now ride this train on the original route through the redwood forest.

It is wonderful that there are so many of these trains preserved throughout the West Coast. A far cry from today's high-speed electric light rails. There's nothing like the sound of a steam train whistle as it chugs along the tracks.
