wingman installation question
I just ordered a wingman add on for my antenna. My question is, can I stand on top of my trailer to install it?
My trailer is about 12 foot tall and working from the ladder might be prohibitive............ I dont want to mess up my roof and just happend to think about standing walking on it might not be good.
I'm also looking to order some vent covers. So, I'm thinking I will need to spend some time up there.
Thanks.

Whether you can stand on your roof or not depends not only on the RV construction (roof thickness) but also on your "eating habits" (body thickness). Most RV roofs are constructed with 3/8" or 1/2" OSB on 16" center rafters. If yours is built this way and IF you are a "compact model" then you will be OK walking "CAREFULLY" on the roof. Try to step on the rafters rather than between them. If, however, you are a "large, economy size model" then I'd recommend using a couple of carpet covered plywood squares about 24" x 24" to distribute your weight. And, if you're a "giant industrial size model" I'd stay off the roof and let someone lighter do the antenna and vent covers. Anyone less than about 200 lbs really shouldn't have much problem (except on some of the "super light" RV's with 1/4" or thinner OSB roofing).

Thanks John for the detailed and fully qualified explanation I would consider myself more of a hybrid model............. or more appropriately.........overweight, middle-aged, small guy at about 180 (with a plus or minus of 10 lbs in either direction based on time of year and last weeks consumption)
I should be ok up there

Should be no problem on a Raptor. As for the antenna, If you raise it up and face it towards the side of the trailer and then bring it down, (clearing any vents) you should be able to reach it easily from a step ladder without going on the roof. .... Before installing be sure the Wingman will clear obstructions when lowered.(includeing the vent covers you plan on installing.
For the vent covers, you will have to get your hybrid body on the roof. Be careful and you should be fine.

With regards to the walking on the roof subject, when we bought our Bullet I noticed there was no ladder. Apparently when the roof is not designed to be walked on the manuf does not install ladders. Glad I asked someone before I drug the ladder out and lumbered up there !

I think the lack of a ladder has more to do with cutting cost and trailer weight. Maintenance on the roof does require that someone gets up there. I have walked on my roof when installing vent covers and cleaning the roof. Just careful to stay on the rafters -- have had no problems.

I too am in the 180/190 range and have had no trouble on the roof.
I wear slippers while up there though and stay away from the edges...

Thanks Hank! This seemed to simple to be brilliant but that's what I'm going to call it. Had it done in 2 mins hanging off the side of the trailer as described
