Light

My outside light next to the door has been acting strange. I use it every night but now the last few times I have used it I find the bulb burnt out by morning. I went to the store and got a new package of bulbs and last night same thing. The light is not corroded and it is getting good voltage. I have left the light on during the day to test for 3-4 hours and its fine. But 10-12 hours and its toast.

That is a 200 hr blub.. 189 lumens

You could try a 1141 which is a little brighter 264 lumen but rated for 500 hours..

However I suspect there is something else at the root cause... if the voltage is correct at the socket then you could also try applying silicon dielectric grease around the base of the tail light bulb and on the contacts. I use it on all my automotive blub conections..

Where else should I be checking? I'm very electric savvy. All wires in the light look good.

You might want to pull the light off the trailer and check the connections hot and ground hardwired to the leads that came with the light. The connections should be tucked away just inside the wall when removing the light, also check the ground wire on the light itself near the base of the bulb.........Ron

Took light off. All wires look good and secure. When inspecting bulb further I notice the filament isn't broke. The tips are white from heat though

If there is any corrosion on the base contacts or on the bulb, it will create resistance and increase heat. A loose bulb from an out of round connector or from "short contacts" on the bulb base or loose contact springs in the fixture will also increase heat and cause the bulb to fail prematurely.

If you can't find anything wrong with grounds, you may want to replace the light fixture or if you are handy, replace the base inside the fixture.

Another possible fix, replace the bulb with a LED. There's less heat, less current flow and most likely longer life. You can buy a LED on EBay for about the same thing as a couple of incandescent bulbs you keep replacing now.

Let us know what resolves your issue....
