Williamsburg, Yorktown, Jamestown CG Revew: Newport News Park CG

Newport News Park CG is a state run facility. Has water and electric hookups avaialble. Sites are deep and wide. Very wooded. Park is adjacent to a resevoir. Very nice CG. Arrived here the Wed before Labor Day. Leaving Monday/Labor Day.

WILLIAMSBURG IS 15 MIN AWAY. JAMESTOWN 45 MINS....EASY DRIVE. YORKTOWN AREA IS ADJACENT TO THE PARK. Typical shopping and restaurants are 10 min away down the same road the CG is on.

First time we had difficulty leveling out. Our site was lower in rear than at tongue. Couldn't get tongue low enough. Had to raise up both sides to get clearance to lower tongue enough. Still slightly off level front to back but OK.

Pros:
large sites
nice playground for kids
boat rentals: paddle, row, canoe
archery range and equipment rental
Disc golf and equipment rental
wooded sites
5.3 mile bike path...nice!
bike path connects to Yorktown area...can ride on Yorktown historic park roads and return.....very nice!

Cons:
Most mosquitos we have encountered this year but not terrible
grass is somewhat tall - which is somehwhat odd in that they had someone blowing the leaves off off the roads in the CG. Overall....it is a maintained CG.
can hear low roar of traffic noise from Rt 64

Love it here!! Would definitely come here again!

We use that as a quick get away since it's 5 min from the house, its actually a city park. The bugs can be bad especially the ticks. But large sites and it's usually pretty quite. Is the park crowded? They haven't been getting too much business lately.

Was virtually empty Wed when we arrived. More people filtered in on Thurs but most arrived Friday. I'd say the CG is 40% full for the holiday weekend.

Do you know why business has been down?

No that's really strange, they are usually full up on the holiday weekends.
