Route from Philadelphia to Hershey PA
Need help please. I have a truck GPS and used it to get from Philadelphia to Hershey, but it sent me completely out of my way and I ended up going over a mountain that the GPS then said not to proceed. I feel like there has to be a much easier way, the only thing I am concerned about is overpass heights. I have a 5th wheel that is 13.1 feet tall.
Any recommendations of a route is very appreciated.

Benrubid, Howdy;
Stop at the nearest Pa. Welcome Center and get your hands on The
Commercial Driver's Map (Trucker's Map), of Pa. They put one out yearly and lists all restrictions. ie; height, length, sever grades, etc......
As you didn't mention which way you are entering Pa. I'll just say this;
Pa. Turnpike West to exit 266;
Go North On Pa. Route 72 About 2 miles Turn Left;
Either West or North onto US. 322...
Continue to US. 422 Turn Right/East and continue to Hershey
Alt. Route;
Stay on Pa. Route 72 (it runs with 322 for a short way), untill it hits US 422;
Turn West/South on 422 And Follow it to Hershey...

Doesn't the Good Sam routing app avoid low bridges, etc? It is free and avail via Internet on Droid or iPhone.
Had a close call 3 weeks ago in Lancaster County PA. WE FOLLOWED THE GPS and it took us on all kinds of backroads...down a hill and under a low RR bridge. Really had no time to react. Had to be close. I thought I heard something hit......but all was OK. I didn't really think there would be many issues....but that rattled me a bit.
Kicker was I knew how to get there but thought we would save 30 seconds with the GPS. Lesson learned!

Never mind on the Good Sam approch. Just tried it to see what it would provide. Didn't even recognize the town of Strasburg. Granted it is not a major metropolis but I would think it would be found. Looks like Good Sam is best for more significant locations. I have used it to get from PA to Nashville and PA to Gatlinburg. Excellent information....especially about where the Pilot and Flying J locations are.....to get the 6 cents/gal discount. The My Pilot Droid app is not bad too!

Assuming you are coming from Jersey, stay away from the Philly area and take the Jersey TPKE to the PA TPKE. The PA Turnpike is your easiest route and with very few steep grades. Also, no problems with height restrictions on the TPKE.

Howdy All;
Just be careful with the 'Arched' bridges.
The clearance gets shorter near the curb side,
still shouldn't have any problems. Just be aware of them.
