Advice Needed - Moutaineer in Cold Weather

Hi there,

I'm looking at the 2011 Keystone Montana Mountaineer 295rkd for full timing, and possibly in colder weather (ex: December in Denver, Colorado) for a few months out of the year. I've read that the Montana is a good unit for winter camping, and that skirting and electric heaters can help off-set the cold. However, the R-9 walls and R-14 roof and ceiling concern me. Those r-values aren't as high as I've seen in some other units, so I'm wondering if the claim that the Montana Mountaineer can keep you warm in sub-freezing temperatures holds up?

Anyone with an opinion/advice/recommendation? It would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Alena

While I don't have a Montana, the construction of my Cougar should be similar. With a little foresight and preparedness, wintering is manageable, here's some links to the upgrades that I made to get through this past winter in New Hampshire

I have a 2013 Montana mountaineer RDK and I live in Alberta. The 5er is good until 0 degree's after that you have to be careful not to freeze the pipes. We have been out in very cold temperatures and have not had any problems. Except the furnace is loud when working. Happy winter camping to you.

Had an Alpine spent 5 winters in Michigan with no issues but you must prepare.

Lots of little things
