Long Distance Checklist?

Our first long distance trip (2,500 miles round trip) is coming up in May as we pull from WA to Disneyland in CA. Any tips or checklists on what we should be sure to bring when traveling this far? I think I've got everything but would like any ideas or thoughts before we get out 1,000 miles+ away from home and realize I forget something important. I was thinking things like a good bottle jack in case of flat, air compressor, tool box, tire iron, road flares/triangles, emergency medical kit. I keep thinking I'm forgetting something.

Take a basic tool kit, tools to change a tire, items for camping and relaxing and remember: THERE'S A WALMART IN EVERY TOWN !!! Don't worry about forgetting things, just make your checklist of things you have that you might need and don't go buying things "just because" Wait until you need them (if you do) and use the money for other things (if you don't)...... As long as you have the emergency items, the rest doesn't have to be along for the ride......

I always make sure I have multiple roadside assistance plans, a wallet with a lot of cash and a credit card with a big limit

I always make sure I have my compressors, torque wrenches/sockets, tools, bottle jacks, wood blocks, infrared temp gun, air gauges, spare parts, and all of the other stuff. For the stuff I forgot God gave us WallyWorld

I pack a spare set of axle bearings in grease and a seal. Others have made the suggestion in the past to avoid delays in getting back on the road while waiting for parts in the event of a failure.

Grease gun if you have wet bolts on your suspension.

I also pack a tube of dicor self leveling sealant and caulk gun, just in case!

I find on longer trips, it is a good idea to check fender fasteners at least every day. On one trip I was tightening a couple of fasteners every gas stop! Until you make one of the mods shared on other threads, the fasteners have a habit of working themselves loose when windy.

Also stock up on items that you would consider for a "continental breakfast". There are some mornings, you just want to get going quickly to beat traffic.

On my last long trip I realized that having a second spare is the best long distance item to have. It's a very uncomfortable feeling to have a flat on a Sunday when you still have 200 miles to go and no tire stores open anywhere. In my case, I was in NM and not only were there no tire stores open, there were only small towns that I don't even know if I could have gotten a new tire if they were open. I'm now adding a BAL Hide-A-Spare and a second spare.

The other important thing to make sure you have on a long trip is the family. It would really suck to get 100 miles or more down the road and realize you left someone home...and don't forget to close the garage door.

That's why God invented MyQ wifi garage door openers! Best thing next to sliced bread and Wifi thermostats.

I second the second spare on a cross country trip. I've been thinking about adding a BAL Hide-A-Spare too. I want to remove the spare off the rear bumper.

I liked the mention of a first aid kit. Have some compresses and quick cot to help with any injury of a major blood loss to your family or crash victims. With 1st responders miles away those will save a life. Most of those things have instructions on them.

A have a first aid kit that is on the edge (or maybe over the edge) of me demonstrating my medical incompetence. I like using the word overkill for preparedness, but maybe that's the wrong choice of words for a first aid kit.

I 2 second the spare wheel bearings and grease, I also carry a fuel filter, and do yourself a favour and purchase a TPMS for the trailer I have spoken to far too many Snowbirds that have had trailer damage from what started out to be a simple puncture that developed into a full blowout. Have a great trip

x2 on a TPMS for the trailer. Without it, a simple roadside tire swap can turn into a catastrophic trip-ending event.

Yep, I have the TPMS monitor for the trailer tires, it gives me one more readout to over analyze and obsess over .

My emergency jump bag is also a bit over the top, but over a decade in Fire/EMS services makes you overprepared at times. Would rather have it and not need it for my family or even a stranger, than to not have what I need and trying to be Macgyver on the side of the highway.
