New Truck is here!

Arrived yesterday- Factory ordered 2012 Silverado 3500HD Crew, 4x4, SRW, LTZ, 4:10 axle, 6.0 Gasser, 4x4, Z71.

All I can say is WOW! Big difference from my former 2008 3/4 ton Silverado. Got to get spray in liner before I install the hitch. Wont be towing fiver until spring.

I got a good one: I think GM hired former Keystone qaulity control employee "Gilligan". The Chevy bow tie emblem on my tail gate was installed about 1/4" off center and crooked (visibly so). LOL.
I couldn't help but think that. I'm not sweating it as I will have the dealer fix it, but couldn't help laughing when I saw it.

I looked at a Chevy Nova on the dealer's lot back in the 70s, on the driver's side it had a NOVA emblem on the front fender the passenger side had a VENTURA emblem.

I think Gilligan has been working at GM long enough to retire, must be his brother or son that works at Keystone

Nice truck........with the rebates (at least up here) The DMax would have lessened your fuel bill considerably though.

I hope the off center problem stops at the tailgate

The diesel might get a little bit of a MPG edge while towing, but the 6.0 will compare just fine the rest of the time. It would take a lot of miles to make up the difference.

People tend to question why not a diesel?
Trust me, I've done the math. In NYS, diesel typically runs .50/gal higher than 87 octane. I tow at most 15k annually, averaging 9.5 MPG towing.(most trips within 75 mi. I use my truck for daily driving (20k year) averaging 12.5 mpg, 15/hwy. I keep my trucks about 4 yes and sell them before major repairs and road salt take over. In never upside down in financing, plus I take tax deduction and off the books compensation from my employer.
The 6.0 with 4:10 axle has more than enough power for my needs. Plus, I am not overweight with my fiver.
I may reconsider if I am ever lucky enough to retire and travel more. Did I say I love my truck?

I probably don't tow enough to justify owning a diesel, let alone 2 of them. But I love them. The sound, the smell, the power. And the ease of upgrading for more power or economy, if needed. My last truck got 15 in town, 20-21 hwy and about 12.5 pulling the trailer and never had a lack of power. Only put about 12K a year, total. We pull the trailer alot but most of our camping is close to town. Maybe one trip to the coast a year. Diesel fuel does run a bit higher than reg unleaded. I get about $.50 off per gallon, but thats another story.

But diesels aren't for everybody. If you like your truck and it does what you want, that matters a lot more than what's under the hood.

Not trying to stop the thread here, but we seem to be getting into a different discussion about the merits of diesel versus gas. Steve, the OP, started the thread to let people know about his new truck. He is very pleased with his new "gasser" and; for him, it will do the job. He has done his homework and in his own words, "loves his truck".
Perhaps we can close this thread since it seems to be heading in a different direction and if any of the contributors would like to start a new thread about the merits of gas or diesel, I would encourage you do that.
